By The 2 min read

They weren’t all together on a team during the high school basketball season, but a group of six boys wound up being double winners at the Fayette County Coaches Association’s Senior Recognition Games last Sunday at Laurel Highlands’ Harold “Horse” Taylor Memorial Gymnasium. Laurel Highlands’ Paul Briczinski, Mapletown’s Joe Clites, Connellsville’s Joe Kovach, Dave Gesinski, and Carmichaels’ Colby Giles and Bobby Hathaway led the West to victories over the South, 33-32, and the North, 35-27.

Hathaway and Briczinski led the way against the South with 11 and eight points, respectively.

Albert Gallatin’s Chris Moore, who won the 3-point shootout, paced the South with 11 points, and Waynesburg Central’s P.J. Schumacher chipped in with six on a pair of treys.

Briczinski scored eight more and Clites followed with seven against the North.

Uniontown’s Brandon Duncan led the North with eight points. Dale Speggen was next with seven.

Andy Lazur scored 15 points and Duncan contributed 10 in the North’s 39-26 triumph over the South. Schumacher rang up 11 points for the South and Laurel Highlands’ Brian John tallied six.

There were three boys teams and each played two games.

Brownsville’s Paul Hlatky won the foul-shooting contest and Duncan won the slam-dunk contest.

In the girls game, the Blue got eight points from Connellsville’s Jamie Domer and seven from Brownsville’s Angela Smith in defeating the White, 53-32. Albert Gallatin’s Rachel Karpency and Brownsville’s Maggie Craig paced the White with nine points apiece.

Geibel Catholic’s Meghan Barry won the 3-point shootout, and Domer took top honors in the foul-shooting contest.
