Uniontown wins Undergrad

The annual Laurel Highlands boys and girls Undergrad Tournament was held this weekend at the Laurel Highlands senior high Quad-A Class AAA sections were paired together as well as Class AA and Class A.

Reese Hodge led Uniontown with 15 points in the marquis boys AAAA-AAA championship game as the Red Raiders defeated host Laurel Highlands, 46-37.

Hodge also shot 5-of-6 from the foul line.

Paul Gmutza also landed double-figures for the Red Raiders with 12 points. Uniontown totaled 15 goals from the field, including 14 of 18 from the foul line and two 3-point goals.

J.T. Stefanik had the hot hand for the Mustangs with 10 points, including a perfect 4 of 4 from the foul line.

Laurel Highlands also tossed in 15 field goals and shot 6 of 13 from the foul line.

Laurel Highlands led by one at the half, but Uniontown rallied in the second half and outscored the Mustangs 25-15.

Geibel jumped out to an early lead against Carmichaels in the boys AA-A championship game and never looked back as it defeated the Mikes, 55-28.

Four Gators scored in doubles figures as Kellen Holmes led the way with 16 points, Rob Ramsey scored 13 and Earl Gilbert and Zack Voithofer added 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Geibel totaled 20 field goals and shot 12-15 from the charity stripe. Holmes, Ramsey and Gilbert each added a 3-pointer.

Sean McCombs was the only Mike to score in double digits with 10 points, including the teams’ only 3-point goal.

Norwin outscored Trinity 7-2 in the overtime period as it went on to win 33-28 in the Girls AAAA-AAA championship game.

Alissa Schake led all scorers with 13 points for Norwin.

Malory Chicone led Trinity with nine points.

Rockwood edged past Southern Garrett in the girls AA-A championship game 43-40.

Southern Garrett led by one at the half behind Becca Flanagan’s 16 points. Rockwood rallied in the second half and outscored Southern Garrett 28-24 for the win.

Megan Schmuck led Rockwood with 11 points, while Nicki Baker added 10.

In the boys’ junior high championship game, Albert Gallatin defeated Uniontown 48-32. Jared Lint led the Colonials with 13 points and Nate Turner added 11. Kishaun Cook was the high scorer for Uniontown with nine.

Ashley Attenberger led Norwin with 10 points as it defeated Elizabeth-Forward 32-24 in the girls junior high game.

Chrissy Burnsworth was the high scorer for E-F with eight points.
