Geibel Catholic golfers top West Greene Matt Mascia fired a 4-over-par 38 as Geibel Catholic defeated West Greene 205-266 in Division II, Section 8 golf play at Pleasant Valley C.C.

Geibel’s Andrew Broadwater (41), Philip Lucostic (41), James McGrath (42), Zack Bell (43) and Scott Bell (48) rounded out the top five finishes.

Joe Welch (49) shot the low round for West Greene.

The Gators (10-3, 10-2) tied for first place in the section. They host Waynesburg Central today in a match that could decide the section title.

Uniontown 192, Connellsville 222 – Greg Franko shot a 1-over-par 36 as Uniontown rolled to an easy Division I, Section 2 victory over Connellsville at Duck Hollow G.C.

Teammate Jarrod Bartok finished two strokes behind, while Zack Rockwell, Trey Mallicone and Connellsville’s Jordan Craig finished with 39s.

The Red Raiders (11-1, 13-1) play Yough at 3 p.m. today.

Belle Vernon 222, Albert Gallatin 230 – Brian Luzanski took medallist honors with a 42 as Belle Vernon (7-6, 8-8) defeated Albert Gallatin (4-9, 5-12) in a Division I, Section 2 match at Willowbrook G.C.

Joe Pirilla finished second with a 43, while Marcus Wilson and AG’s Cory Moore tied for the third spot with 44s.

Charleroi 213, Frazier 246 – Anthony Amprim medalled with a 1-over-par 38, as Charleroi (7-3) defeated Frazier (1-9) in Division II, Section 2 action at Carmichaels G.C.

Charleroi’s Justin Piot and Frazier’s Jeff Adams finished one stroke off the pace.

Brownsville 197, Mapletown 208 – Mapletown’s Chris Boord shot a 1-over-par 38, but Brownsville edged the Maples in Division II, Section 8 action at Carmichaels G.C.

Four golfers tied for second place, as Brownsville’s Ryan Bashour, Chuck DeCarlo, Bryce Connors and Mapletown’s Jesse Boord all shot 39s.

Josh Seelye and Ron Jones shot 40s for the Falcons.

Beth-Center 202, Jefferson-Morgan 242 – Jefferson-Morgan’s Chris Griedel shot a 1-under par 37 at Nemacolin C.C., but Beth-Center claimed the next four finishes as it defeated the Rockets in non-section action.

Roger Myers and Brandon Boledovic finished in second place with 39s, Aric Ilko had a 40 and Matt Rohrer carded a 41.

Girls’ volleyball

Derry 3, Brownsville 0 – Derry handed Brownsville its 11th loss of the season as it blanked the Lady Falcons in a Section 5-AA match.

The game scores were 25-11, 25-11 and 25-8.

Beth-Center 3, Avella 0 – Leslie Kurjanowicz led with 14 service points, and Breanne Bell added 13 as Beth-Center (8-0, 5-0) blanked Avella in Section 4-A action.

Breanne Palette had nine kills and Samantha Slagle added eight.

Girls’ soccer

Laurel Highlands 5, Connellsville 0 – Molly Macioce posted the hat trick as Laurel Highlands blanked Connellsville in Section 2-AAA action.

Wendy Dowling and Kayla Mikluscak also scored for the Fillies.

Jenny Smith had three saves for LH, while Connellsville’s Rachel Blasko posted 17 saves.

Laurel Highlands (5-6, 7-7-1) plays Monday at Belle Vernon.

Geibel Catholic 5, Carmichaels 1 – Kaitlyn Fagan and Emily Pennington each scored two goals for the Lady Gators (3-8, 3-10) as they defeated Carmichaels.

Liz Sunseri scored the final Geibel goal.

Sabrina Szabo was in at goal for Geibel and posted seven saves, while Carmichaels goalkeeper Courtney Gilpin had 14 saves.

Girls’ tennis

Norwin 3, Connellsville 2 – Norwin beat Connellsville for its third Section 1-AAA victory.

Connellsville claimed the No. 2 singles match as Laura Lucas defeated Nicole D’Antonio (6-3, 4-6, 6-2).

The team of Laruen Hartz and Mirana Hughes defeated Rachel Kalberer and Danni Bentner (2-6, 7-5, 7-5) for Connellsville in No. 1 doubles.

Connellsville (8-6, 5-6) plays Franklin Regional at home on Friday.

Brownsville 2, Mount Pleasant 2 – The Brownsville and Mount Pleasant Section 1-AA tennis match is deadlocked at 2-2 and was called for darkness before the start of the second doubles match. It’s not been determined when the last set will be played.

Brownsville claimed the first singles match as Christina Libertini defeated Brianne Ludwick (3-6, 6-3, 6-1).

Mount Pleasant’s Katie Shaw evened the score as she won the No. 2 singles match over Danielle Davison (7-5, 6-4) and then took the lead in the No. 3 singles match as Amanda Freeman defeated Ashton Restina 5-7, 6-1, 6-1.

In the first doubles match, Brownsville’s Chantel Curcio and Chelsea DeConcilis downed Vicki Mull and Stacy Kinneer 3-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Brownsville plays Greensburg Central Catholic today. If Brownsville wins, it will claim the Section 1-AA crown.
