Mustangs down Colonials in Section 4 soccer match Martin Barsack and Josh Kremposky each scored a goal and assisted on three as Laurel Highlands defeated Albert Gallatin 10-2 in a Section 4-AAA boys soccer match on Thursday.
Gary Valusek opened the scoring for the Mustangs at the 36:24 mark in the first half.
Bryan Lipchinsky picked up LH’s second goal at 35:11 mark.
Rafael Glueck, Brian Zinn, Bobby McLaughlin, Ryan Medvitz and Joey Hays also found the back on the net for LH.
Logan Galand scored Albert Gallatin’s lone goal at the 8:09 mark in the first half.
Laurel Highlands’ goalkeeper Medvitz had two saves in the first half, and Cory Borland posted four saves in the second half.
Albert Gallatin goalkeeper Brad Davis posted 23 saves in the first half, and Jimmy Young had seven saves.
The Mustangs (4-8, 6-8) visit Norwin on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
The Colonials fall to 0-12 in the section and 2-14 overall.
Girls’ volleyball
Frazier 3, Carmichaels 0 – Ashley Madorma led with 27 service points as Frazier continues to roll in Section 5-A with shutout over Carmichaels.
Holly Smith added six kills for the Lady Commodores.
Frazier (8-1, 11-1) plays section rival Geibel Catholic on Tuesday.
Geibel Catholic 3, Mapletown 0 – Julie Debo led with 15 service points and 13 assists as the Lady Gators remained undefeated in Section 5-A action with a win over host Mapletown.
Ashley Kreinbrook had 10 service points and 10 kills. Teammates Dana Pawlikowsky posted 10 kills and Kristin Hozak added 16 assists.
Geibel (9-0, 10-0) host Frazier on Oct. 14.
Greensburg C.C. 3, Brownsville 0 – Brownsville remained winless at 0-14 with a Section 5-AA loss on the road to Greensburg C.C.
The game scores were 25-9, 25-7 and 25-6.
Brownsville visits Yough on Tuesday.
Beth-Center 3, Bishop Canevin 0 – Breanne Bell totaled 15 service points as Beth-Center blanked Bishop Canevin on the road in Section 4-A action to remain undefeated (11-0, 8-0).
Teammates Lauren Kuntz had 13 service points, while Breanne Paletta and Samantha Slagle had 15 and eight kills, respectively.
The Lady Bulldogs play Bentworth on Tuesday and Bishop Canevin in a makeup game on Wednesday.
Ringgold 3, Uniontown 0; Ringgold 3, Uniontown 0 – The Uniontown girls volleyball team fell to 5-9 overall and 2-9 in Section 2-AAA with a doubleheader loss to Ringgold at home.
The scores in game one were 25-16, 25-9 and 25-7.
Bethany Vekkeli and Kelly Palya led with three service points, Susan Lengvarsky had five assists and Melissa Voytek added three blocks.
Allison Gearing had six digs and Palya added four.
In Game 2, Lengvarsky totaled seven assists, Voytek had six blocks and Vekkeli added four.
Uniontown plays Trinity on Tuesday and Laurel Highlands Thursday.
Connellsville 3, Laurel Highlands 1 – Haley Cupp led with 12 service points for the Fillies, as Connellsville defeated visiting LH in Section 2-AAA.
Haley Cupp had 12 service points and six kills.
Renee Gmitter totaled seven kills and Samantha Zavachen added eight blocks for LH.
The Fillies (9-7) host Peters Township at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Jefferson-Morgan 3, West Greene 0 – Jessica Johnston led the way with 14 service points as Jefferson-Morgan blanked West Greene in Section 2-A action.
Erica Smogie added seven kills.
Kayla Burns had 10 service points for West Greene (4-9, 2-6).
The Lady Rockets (8-5, 4-4) visit Carmichaels on Tuesday.
Girls’ tennis
Hempfield 5, Connellsville 0 – Connellsville finished its season at 11-7 overall and an even 7-7 in Section 1-AAA with 5-0 loss to Hempfield.
In the No. 1 singles match, Angela Tocco defeated Connellsville’s Kristina Grove (6-2, 6-3) and Alysse Lerew downed Laura Lucas in No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-0), while Sarah Atkins defeated Lindsay Weimer (6-6, 6-4) in the third singles match.
Hempfield also swept the doubles match as Chrissy Price and Jennica Jackson defeated Megan Parson and Amanda Stout (6-3, 6-4) and the team of Cara Haines and Jamie Thompson defeated Lauren Hartz and Miranda Hughes (6-0, 7-5).
Hempfield finishes the season at 10-4 overall.
Brownsville 4, South Park 1 – Brownsville raised its record to 10-1 overall with a Section 1-AA victory on the road against South Park.
In the No. 1 singles match, Christina Libertini downed Joanna Daud 6-4, 6-3. After losing the No. 2 singles match, Chantel Curcio rallied in the third singles match with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Nicki Jurcher.
The Lady Falcons swept the doubles matches as the team of Chelsea DeConcilli and Ashton Restina defeated Karly Parker and Katie McPherson (6-3, 6-2) and Kelly Davison and Bethany Seeyle downed Katelynn Macy and Jenna Nester (6-2, 6-1) in the No. 2 doubles match.
Women’s tennis
Waynesburg 8, Penn State-Altoona 1 – The Waynesburg women’s tennis team completed its most successful season in school history with a 10-5 record.
Waynesburg swept the singles matches as Andrea Custer defeated Alison Schwartz in the No. 1 singles (6-1, 4-6, 10-8).
Mount Pleasant graduate Mindy Hall defeated Nicole Maietta 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 2 match and Connellsville graduate Beth Conlon downed Julie Bollinger in the third singles match (6-0, 6-0).
Hall also teamed with Corey Cooper in the No. 2 doubles match for an 8-2 victory over Bollinger and Lyndsay Masterson.
Waynesburg travels to Erie today to begin play in the PAC Tournament held at The Pennbriar Athletic Club.
Women’s volleyball
Waynesburg 3, Westminster 0 – Ronnie Jo Meyers led with 15 service points as Waynesburg won its 12th straight match, over Westminster, (8-18, 3-3) in PAC action.
Brittany Morrow had 13 kills and 13 digs, while Kaci Hlad added 12 kills and three blocks. Katie Beall also had 41 assists.
Waynesburg (20-4, 6-0) hosts Grove City at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
