Central Catholic rolls as WPIAL puts 3 teams in state finals ALTOONA (AP) – Eugene Jarvis ran for three touchdowns to lead Pittsburgh Central Catholic to a 44-0 win over Bishop McDevitt in the PIAA Class AAAA semifinals on Saturday at Mansion Park Stadium.
The victory earns the Vikings (15-0) their second straight trip to a PIAA title game. Pittsburgh Central Catholic will play Neshaminy (13-1), which defeated Easton 21-14 on Friday.
Jarvis rushed for 83 yards on 12 carries and scored on runs of 1, 34 and 4 yards; all of his scores came in the first half.
Meanwhile, Central Catholic’s defense dominated the Crusaders (10-3), holding them to 83 yards of total offense and shutting down highly touted running back LeSean McCoy. After running for 1,097 yards and 15 touchdowns in his last three games, he was held to 38 yards on 22 carries.
Grove City 21, Tyrone 17
STATE COLLEGE – Dan Wise scored on a 10-yard run with 1:11 to play as Grove City beat Tyrone 21-17 in the PIAA Class AA semifinals on Saturday at Memorial Field.
Grove City (11-2) will be making its first appearance in the PIAA finals next Saturday against Lansdale Catholic, a 25-7 winner over and Littlestown on Saturday.
Tyrone finishes at 12-2.
Thomas Jefferson 21, Erie Strong Vincent 20
SLIPPERY ROCK – Brad Dawson threw two touchdown passes to lead Thomas Jefferson to a 21-20 victory over Erie Strong Vincent in the PIAA Class AAA semifinals on Friday at Slippery Rock College.
The victory earns Thomas Jefferson (13-2) its first trip to the state championship game. The Jaguars will face defending champion Manheim Central (13-1) in the title game Dec. 10 at Hersheypark Stadium.
Rochester 20, Curwensville 12
ALTOONA – Cory Schleyer threw two touchdown passes to Derek Moye to lead Rochester to a 20-12 win over Curwensville in the PIAA Class A semifinals Friday night at Altoona’s Mansion Park.
The victory earns Rochester (12-3) its sixth trip to the PIAA championship game, to be held Dec. 10 at Hersheypark Stadium. The Rams will face Southern Columbia (14-0) in the title game for the fifth time in seven years. Rochester’s Brent Whiteleather led all rushers with 154 yards on 32 carries. Nick Sipes led Curwensville with 116 yards on 13 carries.
