Connellsville wrestlers top Laurel Highlands Connellsville got six pins and three forfeits in its 68-4 Section 2-AAA wrestling win over visiting Laurel Highlands Wednesday night.

The Falcons improved to 4-1 and dropped the Mustangs to 4-5.

The match started at 145 with three consecutive forfeits to the Falcons. Connellsville got pins from Jason Doppelheuer, Justin Haines and Tyler Nicholson and decisions from Adam Knepper and Josh Brewer before the Mustangs scored their points on Cameron Muma’s major decision (12-2) at 112.

Cody Pujia scored a 17-2 technical fall and Steve Bell, Ashtin Primus and Zach Snyder recorded pins for the Falcons.

Albert Gallatin 52, Ringgold 23 – The Colonials got consecutive pins from Lance Bryson (152), Mack Brown (160) and Charlie Belch (171) to grab this come-from-behind win over the Rams in another Section 2 match.

Ringgold scored a forfeit win and a pin by Ian Markies to open the match before AG won the next three bouts and 10 of the next 11 bouts to win the match. The Colonials are 2-0.

Boys basketball

Frazier 48, California 39 – Steven Erdely hit three three-pointers to lift Frazier back over .500 with a win over California in non-section boys’ basketball action Wednesday night.

The Commodores improved to 4-3 overall, at the expense of the 1-5 Trojans.

California got 13 points from Woody Stewart.

Frazier limited California to 16 points in the first half, but the Trojans netted 17 in the third quarter alone and trailed by only five, 38-33, heading into the last quarter. The Commodores held on for the win with a 10-6 scoring edge over the final eight minutes.

Brownsville 67, Clairton 65 – Adam Kezmarsky led four Brownsville double-digit scorers with 20 points as the Falcons held off Clairton for a non-section boys basketball win at Republic.

Nick Jellots added 17 for the Falcons (5-1), while Neil Novak had 13 and Scott Fraley 12.

Brownsville trailed, 31-29, at halftime and took a 55-54 lead after a wild third quarter that saw the Falcons outscore Clairton 26-23. A 12-11 edge in the fourth handed Brownsville the win. Clairton (3-3) got 19 points from Ken Chapman and 18 from Leroy George, while Keenan Johnson had 11.

Brownsville hosts Derry Friday in a Section 3-AAA game, which also will be played at Republic.

Waynesburg Central 45, Carmichaels 38 – Nate Stoner had a double-double for Waynesburg Central with 14 points ad 12 rebounds to lead the Raiders to a non-section win over Carmichaels.

Waynesburg (2-4) limited the Mikes to four points in the third quarter, yet led by only four heading into the last quarter. An 18-15 scoring edge provided the difference.

Jared Lapkowicz paced Carmichaels (3-3) with 14 points, including four three-pointers, while Tyrone Pinson added 12.

Girls basketball

Ringgold 53, Laurel Highlands 40 – A three-point first quarter proved costly to Laurel Highlands in its non-section loss at Ringgold. The Fillies were outscored 14-3 in the opening eight minutes and a 16-11 second-quarter deficit put LH behind 30-14 at halftime.

Amy Kifus paced the Lady Rams (5-1) with 12 points, while Mallory McCormick had 11 and Tonya Lewis added 10. Kayla Ashton led all scorers with 13 for the Fillies (1-5).

Laurel Highlands gets back to Section 3-AAA action tonight when it travels to Indiana.

Clairton 69, Mapletown 34 – Clairton raced to a non-league victory over Mapletown.

The visitors were led by Carele Smith with 16 points, while Kameron Townes and Uniquea Hines rounded out the twin-figure scoring with 13 and 11, respectively.

Mapletown’s Brittani Schock was high scorer in the game with 17 points, and Mary Kocerka tossed in 13.

The loss leaves the Lady Maples 1-3 on the season.

Frazier 70, Carmichaels 17 – Frazier had a double double-double in this easy non-section win over Carmichaels. Brooke Carson had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while A.J. Morgan scored 17 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Larrissa Kulikoski added 11 points for Frazier (3-3).
