Ramsey leads LH to victory over Indiana Kaleb Ramsey was the go-to guy for the Mustangs, scoring 30 points to lead Laurel Highlands to a 68-46 Section 1-AAAA victory at Indiana. The Mustangs improve to 2-0 in the section and 3-4 overall while Indiana falls to 0-2 in the section and 2-5 overall.

Ramsey made 13 field goals and made all four free throw attempts for his game-high point total.

“He was posting up and making medium-range jump shots,” said Laurel Highlands head coach Rick Hauger. “He made a little bit of everything. This was a good win for us.”

Steve Shirley led Indiana with 13 points.

Albert Gallatin 64, Kiski Area 59 – The Colonials had five players in double figures to win their first Section 1-AAAA game of the season. Albert Gallatin improves to 1-1 in the section and 4-2 overall.

T.J. Hall led Albert Gallatin with 15. Nate Turner scored 12, Jawaan Alston added 11 and Jarrod Lint and Zach Voithofer both scored 10.

Adam Yingling scored 18 points for the Cavaliers (0-1, 1-4) with Chase Mangus adding 11.

Derry 61, Brownsville 51 – The Falcons fell short in their bid for a Section 3-AAA victory with the Trojans taking the second half, 45-32. Brownsville slips to 0-2 in the section and 5-2 overall while Derry improves to 1-1 and 4-3.

Nick Dixon scored a game-high 21 points for Derry. Nathan George scored 11 and Matt Clayton added 10 in the victory.

Nick Jellots led the Falcons with 20 points. Adam Kezmarsky also had a double figure performance with 12 points.

Belle Vernon 56, Mount Pleasant 52 – The Leopards remained undefeated with their second Section 3-AAA victory.

Belle Vernon improves to 4-3 overall. The Vikings fall to 0-2 in the section and 2-5 overall.

Waynesburg Central 63, Steel Valley 55 – The visitors closed to within seven points after outscoring the Raiders, 21-11, in the third quarter, but Waynesburg Central held off any hopeful rally for a Section 4-AAA victory.

Waynesburg improves to 2-0 in the section and 3-4 overall. Steel Valley goes to 0-2 in the section and 4-2 overall.

Waynesburg’s Anthony Bocchini led all scorers with 23 points. Nate Stoner also had a strong scoring game with 21 points.

Robert Todd scored 21 for Steel Valley.

Fort Cherry 58, Southmoreland 51 – The Rangers remained undefeated with a road victory at Southmoreland. Fort Cherry goes to 1-0 in the section and 6-0 overall. Southmoreland evened its season record at 1-1 in the section and 4-4 overall.

Carmichaels 62, California 34 – The Mikes outscored the Trojans in every quarter for a Section 2-A road victory at California. Carmichaels opened with a 14-9 lead, extending it to 29-15 at the half, and adding on to the advantage with a 17-9 third quarter.

Jeff Lapkowicz led Carmichaels (2-0, 4-3) with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Tyrone Pinson added 13.

Dustin Taylor was the lone player for California (1-1, 1-6) in double figures with 10 points.

Jefferson-Morgan 60, West Greene 44 – The Pioneers tried to rally in the second half, outscoring their hosts 33-26 in the second half, but it wasn’t quite enough as the Rockets won their first Section 2-A game of the season.

Sevens were wild for Jarrod Moskola with the Jefferson-Morgan forward making seven field goals and going 7-for-7 from the foul line to finish with 22 points. J.W. Popielarcheck scored 17 for the Rockets. Jefferson-Morgan goes to 1-1 in the section and 2-6 overall.

Travis Isiminger led the Pioneers (0-2, 0-5) with 12 points. Jake Kerch added 11.

Avella 62, Mapletown 37 – The Maples had a tough go of it, dropping a Section 2-A game to the Eagles. Avella is now 1-1 in the section and 2-3 overall. Mapletown remains winless, dropping to 0-2 in the section and 0-7 overall.

Geibel Catholic 70, Frazier 67 – The Gators hit their stride in the middle two quarters, outscoring the Commodores, 48-36, on their way to a non-section victory at Frazier. Geibel Catholic head coach Ken Misiak moved one win closer to 700 career wins as the Gators improve to 4-1 overall.

The combination of Kellen Holmes-Rob Ramsey counted for 50 points with Holmes scoring 28 and Ramsey adding 22. Both players had a double-double with Ramsey pulling down 10 rebounds to go with six assists while Holmes had 12 rebounds and six assists.

Will Bronson led the Commodores (4-4) with 22 points, scoring 18 of those points in the second half.

Wayne Lonce scored 14 with Steven Erdely and Ryan Keebler adding 12 points apiece.

Bronson had eight assists with Lonce strong under the boards with 10 rebounds. Keebler had a nice all-around performance with eight rebounds and seven assists.

Girls basketball

Cameron (W.Va.) 79, West Greene 57 – The visitors were too much for the Lady Pioneers, despite a 33-point performance by Rachel Phillips. West Greene falls to 2-4 overall.

Phillips had quite a game, making 12 field goals, going 5-for-6 from the foul line, grabbing 12 rebounds, and dishing out six assists.

Katie Horr was also in double figures with 10 points.

Emma Shalaway led four Cameron players in double figures with 23 points. Lacey Tustin scored 17, Sarah Weigand had 12, and Kristin McCombs added 10 for the visitors.

Clairton 78, Jefferson-Morgan 26 – The Lady Rockets had a tough road trip on a non-section loss to the Lady Bears.

Frazier 55, Beth-Center 34 – Emily Null scored 17 points while Brooke Carson and A.J. Morgan each scored eight Thursday night at Frazier. Ashley Amos scored 14 for the Lady Bulldogs with Courtney Kurowski adding 10.
