By The 2 min read

The Connellsville wrestling team won its 500th match in the program’s history, and did so in exhilarating style with a fall in the final bout Thursday for a tough 31-25 non-section road victory. The match was tied at 25-25 heading into the final bout at 215 pounds when Josh Brewer secured a pin with only nine seconds remaining in the bout over the Big Macs’ Nick Lopez.

Justin Haines started the night with a 3-1 overtime decision at 275 pounds. Canon-McMillan received a forfeit at 103 pounds, a fall at 112, and a decision at 119 pounds before the Falcons went on a run of their own.

Mike Zavada won a 14-1 major decision at 125 pounds, Steven Bell hung on for a 3-1 win at 130 and Ashtin Primus won by fall in the first period. Zach Snyder kept the momentum alive with a 6-4 decision at 140 pounds and Josh Martin added much needed points with a 3-2 decision at 145 pounds.

Buddy Sines followed a Canon-McMillan decision with a 5-2 decision of his own at 160 pounds. Jason Doppelheuer needed an extra period, but the 171-pounder won a 5-3 decision before Canon-McMillan tied the match with a decision at 189 pounds.

Connellsville is off until next week when the Falcons will compete in Powerade Tournament at Canon-McMillan.
