Weekend Spotlight Athlete
Several players had recipe for success Not a lot of action this weekend as only a handful of games were on the local sports radar. Brownsville defeated Laurel Highlands 15-11, while Mapletown took care off Trinity (W.Va.) 14-1 on the baseball diamond. Offense was the name of the game, but one pitcher took matters into his own hands with a dominating performance on the mound. A “dash of hitting” and a “pinch of pitching” make up the recipe for this weekend’s spotlight athletes.
-Brownsville’s Kevin Garbutt lit up the Laurel Highlands pitching staff for a double, single, and two RBI’s.
-Mapletown’s Ruben Grim led the Maples’ attack with a double, two singles, and three RBI’s.
-Laurel Highlands’ Josh Guittap gave it his all in the Mustangs’ loss, as the senior had a triple and a double at the plate.
-Trinity (W.Va.) was limited to two hits on Saturday, as Mapletown’s Ben Corso struck out three and walked one to pick up his first victory of the season.
