Colonial Legion wins opener over Pt. Marion
Colonial American posted its first win of the season Saturday, besting Point Marion, 8-6. It was a hitters’ afternoon, as Point Marion pounded out 17 safeties to 14 for Colonial.
Trailing 5-2, Colonial put the wraps on with a five-run explosion in the fifth.
Following a hit batsman and two walks, Corey Watkins double home a pair of runs, back-to-back singles by Mike Klamerus and Scott Fraley produced another tally, before Josh Brown’s two-run double put Colonial ahead for keeps.
Ryan Guthrie had a pair of doubles and a single for Colonial, Buck Erdely added two singles, Chad Rice a pair of safeties, Kevin Garbutt doubled, Watkins doubled, Brown had a single to go along with his two-bagger and Fraley finished the afternoon with two singles.
Dom DeCarlo went the first five innings to get the win, as he struck out two and did not allow a walk, before Watkins came on to finish up. He fanned four and also did not issue a free pass.
Craig Hriblin took the loss.
Josh Null led Point Marion at the plate with three singles and a double, and teammates Craig Santella and Scott Plaski each had a trio of singles.
The loss drops the Pointers to 0-2.
