Cal women drop 77-68 decision to S.C.-Aiken

California University of Pa. senior Erin Dillon poured in a game-high 24 points, including 6-of-9 from the 3-point stripe, but she was the only Lady Vulcan in double-figures as the Vulcans dropped a 77-68 women’s basketball game to host South Carolina-Aiken in the first round of the Merchant’s Basketball Classic. The No. 1-ranked Vulcans (2-2) will meet No. 17 Augusta State today at 1 p.m.

The Pacers (6-2) were led by Nola Grant with 15 points and six rebounds. Katie Gebhardt came off the bench to chip in 14 points and six rebounds. Center Benazura added 12 points.

Sara McKinney came off the bench to score eight points, leading the Vulcans with eight rebounds.

Saint Francis (Pa.) 81, Bucknell 61 – Senior All-American candidate and Connellsville graduate Beth Swink scored 24 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Red Flash.

Swink finished the game 11-for-22 from the field and 2-for-3 from the free throw line to lead the Flash to their first win of the season. She also added two assists and one steal in 32 minutes of action.

Saint Francis opens the Northeast Conference on Dec. 4 when the Red Flash host Central Connecticut State.
