Pirates-Phillies game postponed by rain

1 min read

PHILADELPHIA (AP) – The game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Philadelphia Phillies on Tuesday night was postponed because of rain. The game was called off more than two hours before the scheduled first pitch at 7:05 p.m. It will be made up as part of a doubleheader Wednesday, with the first game starting at 5:05 p.m.

It’ll be the first twi-night doubleheader in the first season at Citizens Bank Park. The Phillies and Tigers played a day-night doubleheader in June.

Ian Snell (0-0) will start for the Pirates in the first game against Philadelphia’s Vicente Padilla (6-7) while Ryan Vogelsong (6-13) will go for Pittsburgh in the second game against the Phillies’ Brett Myers (9-11).

The rainout was the third at home for the Phillies this season. In a one-week stretch in June, rain delayed or postponed games on four consecutive days, with one makeup game against Cincinnati ending at 2:06 a.m. after delays totaled 3 hours, 54 minutes.

The disappointing Phillies were eliminated from playoff contention Monday night. They need one more victory to ensure consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1982-83.
