Turkeyfoot drops West-Pac South game to Rockwood Turkeyfoot Valley wasn’t able to overcome an 11-point first quarter deficit Friday, dropping a West-Pac South Conference home game to visiting Rockwood, 69-59.

Things got worse for the Rams in the second quarter with the visitors extending their lead to 44-23 at the halftime. Turkeyfoot’s rally began with a 17-7 third quarter, but stalled in the final eight minutes with Rockwood taking the quarter, 20-19.

Cody Sanner led four Rockwood players in double figures with 23 points. Jon Hay scored 14 and Seth Foreman and Eli Traup both scored 10 points.

Bill Hinzy had a strong all-around effort for the Rams with 21 points, nine assists and seven steals. Tim Wass had a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Nathan Glass scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds. Rockwood

McGuffey 57, Waynesburg Central 48 – The Raiders’ leading scorer Nate Stoner went down with an ankle injury in the first quarter, and the hopes of a road victory in the Section 4-AAA finale went south as Waynesburg Central scored only seven points in the middle quarters.

Waynesburg Central still earned a berth into the WPIAL playoffs, finishing tied with Keystone Oaks for the fourth and final berth with 7-7 records. The Raiders fall to 13-11 overall. McGuffey improves to 4-10 in the section and 9-15 overall.

Waynesburg led 17-13 after the first quarter, but the Highlanders surged ahead in the next 16 minutes for a 39-24 lead after three quarters.

Anthony Bocchini scored a team-high 16 points for the Raiders.

Nate Stringer hit a trio of 3-pointers to lead McGuffey with 17 points. Luke Baker was also in double figures with 13 points.

Greensburg Salem 63, Brownsville 47 – The Golden Lions earned a share of the Section 3-AAA title with Yough with a road victory at Brownsville. Greensburg Salem goes to 12-2 in the section and 14-9 overall. The Falcons finish the season 2-12 in the section and 8-15 overall.

The visitors pushed out to a 17-6 first quarter lead and never looked back, adding seven points to their advantage for a 34-16 halftime lead.

Scott Fraley was Brownsville’s top scorer with 12 points.

Paul Matthews scored a game-high 24 points for the Golden Lions, including three 3-pointers. Wes Siko added 17 to the winning effort.

Mapletown 45, Jefferson-Morgan 39 – The Maples ended the season on a winning note, defeating the Rockets in the Section 2-A finale at home.

The game seesawed in the first half with Mapletown taking a 14-8 first quarter lead only to have the Rockets rally, drawing to a 23-22 halftime score. Mapletown gained control again in the third quarter, 15-4, only to have Jefferson-Morgan’s fourth quarter rally fall short, 13-7.

Josh Lawrence led the Rockets (3-9, 4-19) with 12 points. Josh Basilone finished in double figures with 10 points.

Brad Hartley had a double-double for the Maples (2-10, 2-21) with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Cory Dillinger led the way with 14 points with Jesse Boord adding 10.

Girls basketball

Carmichaels 72, West Greene 64 – Although Megan Stuvek’s career night was bettered by Rachel Phillips, Stuvek’s teammates added enough help for a season-closing home victory in Section 2-A action.

Stuvek scored a career-high 40 points, finishing the night with a double-double after grabbing 23 rebounds. Jami Menhart led the offense with 14 assists.

Phillips once again led the West Greene attack, scoring a game-high 47 points.

Carmichaels led 18-11 after the first quarter only to have the Lady Pioneers close the gap to 32-29 at the half. The Lady Mikes pulled away with a 21-19 third quarter. West Greene outscored their hosts in the final eight minutes, 23-19.

Carmichaels (6-6, 11-13) awaits word on the upcoming playoffs while the season for West Greene (4-8, 7-15) comes to a close.

Jefferson-Morgan 60, Mapletown 43 – The Lady Maples lost the final Section 2-A game of the year, but had already clinched one of the four playoff berths. Mapletown finishes the season at 6-6 in the section and 7-14 overall. Jefferson-Morgan falls a game short at 5-7 in the section and 7-15 overall.

The Lady Rockets outscored their hosts in all but the second quarter, building a 17-10 first quarter lead.

Rachel Weaver and Ashley Phillips shared team-scoring honors for Jefferson-Morgan with 17 points each. Lindsay Olson added 11.

Brittany Buckhalter had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Lady Maples. Erika Chory chipped in 12 points to go with eight rebounds.

Waynesburg Central 56, McGuffey 30 – The middle quarters were the difference for the Lady Raiders Thursday night as the visitors outscored the Lady Highlanders, 32-11, to close the Section 4-AAA schedule with a win.

Jeanette Wonsettler led the way for Waynesburg (4-10, 11-13) with 21 points. Megan Summersgill added 17 points while Miatta Toothman grabbed 11 rebounds.

Amie Loughman led McGuffey (0-14, 2-22) with nine points.
