Krzyzkewski collapses as Duke beats Georgia Tech
DURHAM, N.C. – Mike Krzyzewski collapsed from a dizzy spell during a timeout in the first half of No. 4 Duke’s 82-65 victory against No. 25 Georgia Tech on Saturday. During a timeout 81/2 minutes into the game, Coach K was talking to one of the referees and suddenly fell to the floor. He lay on his right side, but never appeared to lose consciousness, and coached the rest of the game.
J.J. Redick had 17 of his 26 points in the first half and Shelden Williams finished with 15 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks for Duke (17-2, 7-2 Atlantic Coast Conference).
No. 3 Kansas 78, Nebraska 65
LINCOLN, Neb. – Keith Langford matched his career high with 27 points, and Kansas held Nebraska without a field goal for more than six minutes late to seal the win.
Jason Dourisseau scored a career-high 24 points for Nebraska (10-9, 3-5), which has lost five of its last six conference games.
No. 5 Boston College 60, Seton Hall 52
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Boston College beat Seton Hall to become the first team in conference history to start the season 20-0. And they did it in their last season in the league.
Jared Dudley had 20 points and 14 rebounds for fifth-ranked Boston College (20-0, 9-0), which set the school record for a winning streak and remained with top-ranked Illinois as the only unbeatens in Division I.
John Allen had 12 points for the Pirates (10-9, 2-6).
No. 6 Kentucky 84, Vanderbilt 70
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Patrick Sparks, Kelenna Azubuike and Chuck Hayes each scored 15 points to help Kentucky win its eighth straight.
Corey Smith led Vanderbilt with 16 points.
No. 7 Wake Forest 83, Virginia Tech 63
BLACKSBURG, Va. – Taron Downey scored 18 points lead Wake Forest.
Gray finished with 16 points for the Demon Deacons (19-3, 7-2 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Jamon Gordon led the Hokies (12-8, 5-4 ACC) with 20 points.
No. 10 Oklahoma St. 81, Baylor 63
WACO, Texas – John Lucas III scored 11 of his 14 points in the first half to celebrate his final visit to the place where he started his college career, helping Oklahoma State to a big early lead in a win at Baylor.
Lucas was one of five Cowboys (17-3, 7-2 Big 12) in double figures.
Florida 85, No. 11 Alabama 54
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – David Lee, Anthony Roberson and Matt Walsh each scored 18 points to lead Florida past Alabama for its largest victory against a ranked opponent.
Earnest Shelton and Chuck Davis had 15 points to pace Alabama (17-4, 6-2).
No. 12 Michigan St. 75, Iowa 64
IOWA CITY, Iowa – Kelvin Torbert scored 16 points to help Michigan State hold off a late Iowa rally.
The Hawkeyes (15-6, 3-5) dismissed leading scorer Pierre Pierce from the team Tuesday for off-court legal troubles. Adam Haluska picked up the scoring slack with a season-high 24 points.
No. 13 Washington 82, UCLA 70
SEATTLE – Brandon Roy scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half, and Washington collected 22 offensive rebounds to survive one of its worst shooting performances of the season to beat UCLA.
Washington (19-3, 9-2 Pac-10) extended its home winning streak to 20 games, the school’s longest run since winning 23 straight in 1952-53.
The Huskies shot 37.8 percent (28-of-74) from the floor. Their season-low was 35.9 percent in a 66-48 win over Washington State on Jan. 23.
Dijon Thompson scored 22 points for the Bruins (12-7, 6-5). Freshman Josh Shipp added 20.
No. 14 Arizona 90, Stanford 72
TUCSON, Ariz. – Salim Stoudamire had 20 of his 26 points in the second half, and Arizona ended Stanford’s four-year run of success in Tucson.
Channing Frye had 15 points and 13 rebounds, Hassan Adams and Chris Rodgers scored 13 each and Ivan Radenovic had 10 points for the Wildcats (19-4, 9-2 Pac-10).
The victory was Lute Olson’s 299th conference win – second only to John Wooden’s 304.
Dan Grunfeld had 23 points for the Cardinal.
No. 17 Gonzaga 92, Santa Clara 75
SPOKANE, Wash. – Ronny Turiaf and Adam Morrison each scored 22 points to lead Gonzaga over Santa Clara.
J.P. Batista added 19 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Gonzaga (17-4, 7-2 WCC). The Bulldogs built an early lead as Santa Clara made only one of its first 13 shots.
Santa Clara (12-12, 5-4 WCC), which has wins over North Carolina and Stanford this season, shot just 39 percent. Kyle Bailey led the Broncos with 25 points, hitting 10 of 11 free throws.
There were 48 fouls called in the game, and Santa Clara made 23 of 28 free throws.
Charlotte 91, No. 18 Cincinnati 90
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Brendan Plavich scored all but two of his 26 points on 3-pointers to lead Charlotte over Cincinnati in the final regular-season meeting between the two Conference USA rivals.
Plavich made 8-of-17 3-pointers to lead the 49ers (15-4, 6-2 C-USA) in scoring.
The Bearcats’ (17-5, 6-3) Eric Hicks was fouled under the basket and sent to the line with a chance to tie it, but Hicks made just one of his free throws.
Eddie Basden finished with 20 points, 11 rebounds and four steals for Charlotte. His four steals gave him 231 for his career, tying the conference record.
Hicks led Cincinnati with 20 points.
It was a fitting final regular-season meeting for the two rivals. Cincinnati heads to the Big East next season and Charlotte will move to the Atlantic 10, so the atmosphere was intense for the farewell.
Minnesota 60, No. 19 Wisconsin 50
MINNEAPOLIS – Vince Grier scored 26 of his career-high 32 points in the second half to lead Minnesota.
Grier went 12-for-14 after halftime, matching the Badgers’ second-half total by himself.
The Gophers (16-6, 6-3 Big Ten), picked by most people to finish at or near the bottom of the conference, continued their surprising success and enhanced their chances of taking coach Dan Monson to the NCAA tournament for the first time in his six seasons at the school.
Mike Wilkinson led Wisconsin (15-5, 6-3) with 14 points.
Iowa State 92, No. 20 Texas 80, OT
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Tasheed Carr scored 13 points in overtime and Iowa State ended its 28-game conference road skid with a win over Texas.
Iowa State (11-8, 3-5) hadn’t won on the road in the Big 12 since beating Kansas State on Feb. 21, 2001. Three days later, the losing streak started when Texas thumped the sixth-ranked Cyclones 94-78.
Daniel Gibson scored 23 to lead Texas (15-6, 4-4) and Brad Buckman had 20 points and 15 rebounds. But Buckman missed a free throw that would have given the Longhorns a three-point cushion with 49 seconds left before Will Blalock’s tying shot with 37 seconds left in regulation.
No. 23 Connecticut 68, St. John’s 46
STORRS, Conn. – Rashad Anderson scored 21 points and Josh Boone blocked a career-high nine shots for Connecticut.
The Huskies (14-5, 6-3 Big East) were outrebounded for just the second time this season (40-41), but came up big everywhere else. The Red Storm (8-11, 2-7) shot just 27 percent in their lowest scoring game of the season, going nearly 11 minutes without a field goal in the second half and was 0-12 from 3-point range.
Daryll Hill, the Big East’s top scorer, led St. John’s with 22 points.
No. 24 Villanova 89, Providence 81
VILLANOVA, Pa. – Curtis Sumpter had 24 points and 13 rebounds, Allan Ray scored 20 and Randy Foye 19 to lead Villanova over Providence.
It was another thrilling finish for the 24th-ranked Wildcats (13-5, 5-4 Big East), who have won four of five and had their seventh conference game decided by less than 10 points.
Ryan Gomes led Providence (11-11, 0-8) with a career-high 32 points on 10-for-22 shooting. He made three 3-pointers and all nine shots from the free throw line.
