Tielsch leads Fighting Scots to PSAC-West win over Vulcans Daren Tielsch scored a game-high 28 points for Edinboro, leading the Fighting Scots to a 64-53 PSAC-West victory over visiting California (Pa.) on Saturday. Tielsch finished with a double-double by grabbing 13 rebounds.
The Vulcans dropped their third straight game and sixth of their last eight. Boris Mesnager scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season.
California (13-10, 3-6) return home on Wednesday with a non-conference game against Pitt-Johnstown.
Clarion 73, Pitt-Johnstown 64 – Uniontown’s Terrance Vaughns scored 13 points and hit the boards for six rebounds to help Clarion defeat visiting Pitt-Johnstown for a non-conference victory. Vaughns was on the floor for all but one minute of the contest, making 5-of-11 from the floor (3-of-8 from 3-point range) while dishing out three assists to go with four steals.
Ryan Wells and reserve Chris Buchanan shared scoring honors for the Golden Eagles (16-7) with 14 points apiece.
Penn 84, Penn State-Fayette, The Eberly Campus 47 – The Roaring Lions lost the home finale with only one game remaining, a road game at Penn State-DuBois on Wednesday.
Pitt-Greensburg 105, Medaille 59 – The Bobcats had the offense going with 11 players scoring for an AMCC home victory. Kevin Conlon led Pitt-Greensburg (15-9, 14-3) with 16 points.
Uniontown’s David Winfrey scored three points, but grabbed six rebounds and dished out three assists.
The Bobcats had no problem with visiting Hilbert on Friday, handing the Hawks a 93-47 drubbing. Winfrey scored 10 points in the victory with two assists and three rebounds.
Bethany (W.Va.) 110, Westminster 99 – Matt Drahos set career highs in both points and rebounds to lead the Bison to a Presidents’ Athletic Conference victory at home. Drahos finished with a double-double with 40 points and 19 rebounds.
It was double the trouble for Bethany because Mike Drahos also had a double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds. Uniontown’s Brandon Duncan went 1-of-2 from the foul line with three rebounds and three assists.
Westminster had six players in double figures in the high-scoring game with Ed Pagley leading the way with 19 points.
Bethany (20-3, 7-1) travels to Waynesburg on Wednesday.
Women’s basketball
California (Pa.) 59, Edinboro 49 – Sara McKinney and Kim Nowakowski both scored 17 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Vulcans to a road PSAC-West win.
Dani Mills was also strong with 10 points and eight rebounds, contributing to the effort that helped California reach the 20-victory plateau for the fourth straight year.
Medaille 73, Pitt-Greensburg 70 – The Lady Bobcats’ had their 22-game home-winning streak snapped by visiting Medaille, halting the sixth longest streak in NCAA Division III despite a career-high scoring night by Uniontown’s Teya Minor.
Minor scored 24 points, finishing the game with four fouls along with teammates Becky Joyce, Tish Hines, Jess Phillippi and Tiara Bennett. Minor had two rebounds, an assist and two steals.
Laurel Highlands graduate Amy Bandzuch scored three points to go with five rebounds. Hines finished with a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
The Lady Bobcats made it 22 in a row at home Friday night with an easy 81-48 win over Hilbert. Minor scored nine points in 19 minutes of action, one of 12 Pitt-Greensburg players to score. Bandzuch had a nice all-around performance with six points and four rebounds.
St. Francis (Pa.) 67, Fairleigh Dickinson 54 – Connellsville’s Beth Swink made the most of her Senior Day celebration, scored a game-high 20 points to lead the Red Flash to a Northeast Conference home victory.
In addition to her point total, Swink had three rebounds, three assists and four steals.
