Titans hold off Yellow Jackets in 127-108 shootout The Presidents’ Athletic Conference game between visiting Waynesburg and Westminster Saturday was a wild and wooly one for sure with the Titans holding off the Yellow Jackets, 127-108.

Westminster (15-10, 5-5) led 56-48 at the half of the final regular season game, outscoring Waynesburg, 71-60, in the second half. The Titans will host a PAC Tournament first round game on Tuesday at 8 p.m.

Mark DeMonaco led the Titans as well as all scorers with 30 points. Craig Hannon tied a career high with 26 points.

Marc Lodovico and Shawn Coleman shared scoring honors for Waynesburg (8-17, 2-8) with 18 points each. Beau Wilson scored 16 while Albert Gallatin’s Chris Moore and Josh Parisi chipped in 11 points each.

Pitt-Greensburg 87, Frostburg (Md.) State 75 – The Bobcats won a school-record seventh game in a row, breaking a 43-43 halftime tie for an AMCC home victory. Pitt-Greensburg improves to 15-3 in the conference and 16-9 overall.

Uniontown’s David Winfrey was scoreless in 18 minutes of action, grabbing an offensive rebound with three assists. Winfrey finished with three fouls.

Ryan Moya led the Bobcats with 20 points. Nate Watkins had a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Clint Mullen (14), Duke Cooper (12), Kevin Conlon (13) and Daniel Waajid (10) also scored in double figures.

Frostburg’s Daniel Ryley led all scorers with 30 points.

Saint Vincent 84, Point Park 61 – The Bearcats kept rolling along, cruising past the Pioneers for another American Mideast Conference victory. Saint Vincent stays perfect in the conference with a 14-0 mark, improving to 23-4 overall.

Tony Washam led the way for the Bearcats with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Jeffrey Street had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, as did Jeff Mallory with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Women’s basketball

Westminster 67, Waynesburg 48 – The Lady Titans built a nine-point halftime lead and never looked back for a home victory in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference regular season finale. The two teams will meet in a PAC first round game at Westminster on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Alyson Gasper led Westminster (17-7, 7-3) with 21 points. Desiree Sterling added 19 points.

Candice Eyerman, Lila St. Dennis and Katie Lewandowski all scored eight points for Waynesburg. The Yellow Jackets finish the season 1-9 in the conference and 10-13 overall.

Connellsville’s Bree Williams scored three points in a reserve role while fellow Lady Falcon Dawn Claycomb had an assist.

Saint Vincent 82, Point Park 64 – The Lady Bearcats had a pair of players in double digits for an American Mideast Conference home victory. Kristin Myers led all scorers with 29 points while Lady Bearcat teammate Sarah Rockwell added 24.

Albert Gallatin graduate Rachel Karpency had an offensive rebound and an assist in seven minutes of action.

Saint Vincent improves to 11-7 in the conference and 11-18 overall.

Pitt-Greensburg 95, Frostburg (Md.) State 93 – Laurel Highlands graduate Amy Bandzuch scored a career-high 15 points to help the Lady Bobcats clinch the No. 2 seed in the AMCC and a first-round bye.

Bandzuch went 5-of-6 from the field as well as from the foul line before fouling out in 23 minutes of action. She also grabbed three rebounds.

Uniontown’s Teya Minor was also instrumental in the win with 17 points, six rebounds and three steals in 39 minutes of action.

Tracey Little had a double-double for Frostburg State (19-6, 16-2) with 29 points and 15 rebounds. Tracie George was also tough on the Lady Bobcat defense by scoring 22 points.

Pittsburgh 63, Providence 47 – Marcedes Walker scored a game-high 23 points for the Lady Panthers for a Big East Conference home victory. Pittsburgh evens its overall record at 12-12 while improving its conference record to 4-9.

Pittsburgh led 36-22 at the half, and then held off the Lady Friars with a 27-25 second half.

Vika Sholokhova and Allisha Morris both scored 11 points for the Lady Panthers.

Shauna Snyder was the lone player for Providence (1-23, 0-13) in double figures with 23 points.

College wrestling

Duquesne 27, Delaware State 20; Duquesne 21, James Madison 13 – Jonathan Bittinger won by fall over Thang Phuoc Ho to held the Dukes defeat James Madison. The Albert Gallatin grad pinned Ho in 2:53. He did not wrestle in the Delaware State match.

James Madison salvaged a split of the triangular match with a 27-18 win over Delaware State.

Women’s swimming

Big East Conference Championships – Greensburg Central Catholic graduate and Connellsville resident Lindsey Tiberio finished second in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke Friday night in the Big East Conference Championships. The University of Pittsburgh senior finished in 1:03.81 after securing a spot in the finals with a preliminary time of 1:03.31.

Tiberio was swimming in the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke Saturday night after swimming a qualifying time of 2:21.0.

She finished 35th in Thursday’s 200-yard IM with a time of 2:15.73.

PSAC Championships – California University of Pa.’s Petra Zavadilova won the 100-yard butterfly Friday to help the Vulcans remain in fifth place at the 2005 PSAC Swimming & Diving Championships at West Chester University.

Zavadilova won the butterfly in 55.61 seconds, an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA Championships to be held in Orlando, Fla., on March 9-12. She was an all-American in the event after finishing seventh in the 2004 Championships.

Zavadilova swam the third leg of the 200 medley relay team that finished second with a time of 1:48.60. Filling out the relay squad were Anca Mihaiu, Miranda King and Belle Vernon’s Rachel Driver.

Driver scored in three events, including a pair of relays, in the opening day’s competition on Thursday. The Belle Vernon graduate anchored the 200 freestyle relay team to a third place finish (1:38.38) and 400 medley relay team to a fourth place finish (4:00.18). Driver was 10th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.96 seconds.
