Vulcans sweep at Salem
The 2004 PSAC champions California University of Pa. won two games on Sunday, taking three out of four on the season-opening weekend against regional foe Salem (W.Va.) International.
California won the first game 6-2 thanks to solid pitching by sophomore starter Chris Doershner and a first-inning three-run bomb by junior first baseman Mike Spisak.
In the nightcap, the Vulcans were able to prevail again on the late inning heroics by Phil Arena, who hit a seventh-inning, walk-off single to win the game, 10-9.
California will return to action on March 1 when the Vulcans travel to Alderson-Broaddus (W.Va.) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
