Swink scores 2,000th career point at St. Francis

By The 2 min read

Finishing in first place has become commonplace for St. Francis senior Beth Swink, who poured in game-high 20 points in the Red Flash’s 70-52 victory at Mount St. Mary’s on Thursday night. Swink did add an extraordinary touch to the victory, however, by scoring the 2,000th point of her stellar collegiate career early in the game as St. Francis clinched the Northeast Conference regular-season title.

Swink became just the second player in St. Francis and NEC history to hit that milestone.

The Red Flash (17-9, 15-2) ran its winning streak to 10 games and will next attempt to win its ninth NEC tournament in 10 years to secure another NCAA automatic tournament bid.

Swink, a 6-foot-2 center, sank seven of 15 field goal attempts and made all six of her foul shots against Mount St. Mary’s. She also totaled seven rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot.

Swink, who was the NEC Player of the Week last week, leads the Red Flash in scoring (22.2 ppg), rebounding (7.1 rpg), steals (47), blocked shots (17) and minutes played (965 or 37.1 per game). She’s among the nation’s leaders in field goal percentage (50.9) and is shooting 77.5 percent from the foul line.

She’s fourth on the team in assists (61).

Swink now has 2,017 career points and is second to former St. Francis great Jess Zinobile (2,338) in school and NEC history.

St. Francis will host an opening-round NEC tournament game on Saturday, March 5, at 7 p.m. at the Stokes Center.

The Red Flash have home-court advantage throughout the tournament.
