Connellsville is already in, but the Falcon wrestling team will still have an impact on the other Section 2-AAA teams that will qualify for next week’s WPIAL team playoffs as the section schedule winds up this week. Connellsville stands alone atop Section 2-AAA with a 6-0 record and will close the season at Albert Gallatin on Wednesday night. The Falcons have won 12 consecutive section titles and have won 106 section matches in a row. Albert Gallatin is tied with Thomas Jefferson in second at 5-1 with Elizabeth-Forward at 4-2. Only two of the three teams will qualify for the playoffs.

Waynesburg Central and McGuffey have already clinched Section 4-AAA berths, but the section title will be on the line when the two 6-0 teams wrestle at Waynesburg.

Belle Vernon dropped from Section 2-AAA to Section 2-AA this season, and the Leopards wasted no time by being in the thick of the playoff race. Mount Pleasant stands atop the section at 7-0 with Derry a match behind. The two teams wrestle Wednesday.

Belle Vernon has a 6-2 record with Charleroi standing at 5-2.

West Greene has clinched a Section 4-AA berth and at least a tie for the section title with a 6-0 section mark.

The pairings meeting will be held Friday with the WPIAL Class AAA and AA preliminary rounds to be held on Monday, Jan. 31. The Class AAA first round and quarterfinals will be held at four locations, Connellsville will most likely be one of the sites, on Tuesday, Feb. 1, with the Class AA quarterfinals and semifinals to be held on Wednesday, Feb. 2.

The Class AAA semfinals will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3, with the WPIAL Class AAA and AA Championships to be competed on Saturday, Feb. 5.

The opening round of the PIAA playoffs are on Tuesday, Feb. 8 with the PIAA Championships to be held in at the Giant Center Hershey on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 11-12.
