Fayette County League defeats Penn Mar in All-Star game
Connellsville’s Nick Damico of Bud Murphy’s was named MVP in the eighth annual FCBL-Pen Mar All-Star game as the Fayette County League team emerged victorious with a 7-3 win over Pen Mar at Garrett Community College baseball field Friday. Damico retired nine straight batters on three ground balls, an infield pop up and five fly balls. The last three outs in the third inning were fly outs to right fielder Brent Rockwell.
Teammate Ryan Miscik’s one-out single in the first was capped off by Bradon DePhillip’s (Redd Dawgs) two-out RBI single to give Fayette County a 1-0 lead.
Again in the third inning, DePhillip’s sacrifice fly plated Miscik who got aboard on an error.
FCBL took a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth as George Taylor (Carmichaels) hit a shot down the left field line for a one-out double.
Jim Cales (Carmichaels) followed with a double down the right field line and Chris Buncic (Carmichaels) ripped the third straight double scoring Cales.
Drew Denham (Wana B Heros) made his first FCBL All-Star appearance, ripping a shot past a diving shortstop for two RBI’s scoring Brian Sankovich (Bud Murphy’s) who singled and Adam Jack (Carmichaels) who walked to give Fayette County a 6-3 lead.
An error by Pen Mar gave Fayette County its seventh and final run.
Fayette American Legion
Point Marion 17, Belle Vernon 8 – It’s the second time this season that Point Marion’s Jonathan Angel went 5-5 as he almost hit for the cycle with two triples, a double and two singles en route to an easy Point Marion victory over Belle Vernon in Fayette American Legion action Saturday.
Teammates Aaron Jerome recorded three hits including a double, Brian Caringola singled three times and winning pitcher Scott Plaski added two singles.
On the mound, Plaski came on in relief of Jerome in the fourth inning. He fanned five Belle Vernon batters and allowed three walks.
Jerome worked three and two-thirds innings striking out one and walking one.
Bret King came away with the loss. He pitched four innings, struck out two and walked two.
Bryon Levi and Jordyn Cramer each had three singles for Belle Vernon.
Point Marion (12-7) hosts Uniontown Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
