Mario’s edges Bud Murphy’s, 2-1 Len Pasquale’s sacrifice fly scored Bill Rouse with the winning run, as Mario’s beat Bud Murphy’s, 2-1 in a Fayette County Baseball League game Sunday at Mario’s.
Rouse reached base on a fielder’s choice after Carl Cole led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk. Ryan Robowski singled with Rouse moving to third base to set the stage for Pasquale.
Todd Dunham improved to 6-1 with a solid three-hitter. He struck out six and walked three to help Mario’s improve to 16-5. John Harvey doubled for Mario’s.
Kevin Hiles’ triple was the highlight for Bud’s, who fell to 20-4 on the season. Nick Damico was the hard-luck loser.
Carmichaels 15-9, Hopwood 5-1 – Charlie Humes had four doubles among five hits and drove in five runs in the first game with three doubles to lead Carmichaels to this doubleheader sweep over Hopwood.
Ron Nopwasky also doubled for Carmichaels in the opener, while Gary King and Casey Kupets homered and Howie King doubled for Hopwood. George Taylor pitched the opening win.
In the nightcap, Chris Peters gave up only three hits through five innings, striking out six without walking a batter and Brad Baker doubled among three hits to lead Carmichaels to the sweep and a 19-3 record. Humes doubled, as did John Kiral for Hopwood, which fell to 3-21.
Wana B Heroes 7, Redd Dawgs 5 – Justin Corso took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and ended up with the win, despite giving up five runs in the bottom of the seventh. Craig Hriblan came in to earn the save that lifted Wana B Heroes to 9-14-1.
Corso also had a double, one of five in the game, four by the Heroes (Colby Giles, Drew Denham and Andy Mazur). Trevor Consavage had a two-run double in the seventh inning for Redd Dawgs, who fell to 10-14-1.
Wana B Heroes edged Brownsville, 8-7, in a game played Saturday.
