Mario’s rolls past Wana B Heros, 7-1

Todd Dunham and Jim Kubina combined on a three-hitter and Chris McManus socked a home run and a double as Mario’s rolled past Wana B Heros, 7-1, in Fayette County Baseball League action on Tuesday. Mario’s, which is the third seed in the playoffs, improved to 20-7.

McManus capped a three-run first inning with a two-run homer and Mario’s never looked back, adding two runs in the third and one in each the fifth and sixth.

Dunham (7-1) allowed one run on two hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in four innings to earn the win. Kubina gave up one hit and no walks with three strikeouts over the final three frames to notch his second save.

Jeff Lapkowicz had two hits and John Harvey knocked in a pair of runs for Mario’s.

Losing pitcher Craig Hriblan allowed five runs on six hits with no walks and three strikeouts in three innings as Wana B Heros finished the regular season at 11-16-1.

Mario’s opens the playoffs on Sunday when it host Redd Dawgs at 5 p.m.

Carmichaels 8, Mill Run 3 – Duane Dupont’s three-run homer capped a four-run fifth inning to propel Carmichaels past Mill Run and clinch the top spot in the playoffs for the Copperheads.

Ron Nopwasky had three hits and Gene Franks contributed a pair of two-out, run-scoring singles as Carmichaels improved to 23-4. Chris Buncic doubled and singled, and Charlie Humes also had two hits.

Brian Binder upped his record to 6-1 by surrendering three runs on six hits with three walks and six strikeouts in 5 2-3 innings. George Taylor recorded the final four outs, giving up one walk with a pair of strikeouts.

Brandon Bryner, who had three hits, hit a solo home run in the third to give Mill Run a 2-0 lead, but Carmichaels put up one run in the fourth, four in the fifth and three in the sixth to pull away.

Losing pitcher Tom Cesario walked one and struck out four while pitching into the fifth. Dennis Show had a double for Mill Run (13-13).

Carmichaels will play the winner of Friday’s Hopwood at Brownsville preliminary round game in the first round of the playoffs on Sunday.

Redd Dawgs 9, Hopwood 2 – Ryan Shetterly smacked three hits, including a double, and earned the save with three scoreless innings as Redd Dawgs wrapped up its regular season with a win at Hopwood Fitness.

Ryan Russell gave up two runs on five hits with four walks and one strikeout to earn the win.

Shetterly kept Hopwood hitless over the final three innings, walking one and striking out six.

Mike Welc and Trevor Consavage had two hits apiece for Redd Dawgs, and Nolan Russell tripled in his first at bat of the season.

Jordan White had two of Hopwood’s five hits.

Hopwood (3-25) led 2-0 after four innings, but Redd Dawgs erupted for six runs in the fifth to take control.
