Hiles’ 2-run home run powers Bud Murphy’s to victory
Kevin Hiles was a one-man show offensively for Bud Murphy’s Wednesday as his two-run home run lifted his squad to a 2-0 win over Brownsville in Fayette County Baseball League action. Corey Fox led off the bottom of the fifth with a single and, with one out, Hiles stepped to the plate and hit the game-winner.
On the mound for Bud’s, Richie Means and starting pitcher Matt Basinger combined for a no-hitter over Brownsville.
Basinger worked the first four innings with six strikeouts and four walks. Means (2-0) came on in the fifth, striking out two with no walks in three innings.
Randy Wilson was the losing pitcher for Brownsville.
Bud Murphy’s opens the playoffs Sunday at 5 p.m. against Wana B Heros at Breakneck Field.
Carmichaels 9, Mill Run 3 – Mill Run got on the scoreboard with three runs in the first, but after that it was all Carmichaels, rolling to an easy Fayette County Baseball League victory at home.
Winning pitcher Justin Schrader (5-1) hurled a one-hitter with six strikeouts and two walks. Brian Halfhill struck out one with two walks.
Carmichaels worked 21 players into the game with Brad Baker, Bump Johnson and Ron Nopwasky each posting two hits. Jeff Thompson and Rick Smykla doubled for Carmichaels.
Chris Firestone had the lone extra base hit for Mill Run with a triple.
Carmichaels finishes at 24-4 with Mill Run slipping to 13-14.
The playoffs are set to start Sunday with times and pairing to be determined.
