Mikes, Lady Bulldogs, Lady Raiders set for PIAA playoffs
The Carmichaels baseball team and Waynesburg Central softball team hope to ride the momentum of their respective WPIAL titles when the PIAA playoffs begin Monday. The Beth-Center softball team, the third-place team in Class A, will also begin its quest for a state title Monday.
The Mikes (21-1) defeated previously unbeaten and No. 1 seed Chartiers-Houston, 2-0, Tuesday night at Falconi Field for their second Class A championship in three years. Carmichaels will face Clarion, the third place team from District 9, at Burkett Complex in Robinson Township at 3 p.m.
The Lady Raiders (18-3) travel to Fairhaven Park in McKees Rocks for a 3 p.m. start against District 9 champion Brookville. Waynesburg won the Class AA title Thursday with a 3-2 victory over Section 2-AA rival Washington.
Beth-Center (16-7) advanced to the PIAA playoffs by virtue of its 1-0 win over Vincentian Academy in the Class A consolation game despite no hits. The Lady Bulldogs will take to the road to Brockway High School to play District 9 champion Elk County Christian at 2 p.m.
