The Carmichaels baseball team and Waynesburg Central softball team hope to ride the momentum of their respective WPIAL titles when the PIAA playoffs begin Monday. The Beth-Center softball team, the third-place team in Class A, will also begin its quest for a state title Monday.

The Mikes (21-1) defeated previously unbeaten and No. 1 seed Chartiers-Houston, 2-0, Tuesday night at Falconi Field for their second Class A championship in three years. Carmichaels will face Clarion, the third place team from District 9, at Burkett Complex in Robinson Township at 3 p.m.

The Lady Raiders (18-3) travel to Fairhaven Park in McKees Rocks for a 3 p.m. start against District 9 champion Brookville. Waynesburg won the Class AA title Thursday with a 3-2 victory over Section 2-AA rival Washington.

Beth-Center (16-7) advanced to the PIAA playoffs by virtue of its 1-0 win over Vincentian Academy in the Class A consolation game despite no hits. The Lady Bulldogs will take to the road to Brockway High School to play District 9 champion Elk County Christian at 2 p.m.
