Summer is the time for families to go bowling
The world is a different place now. Activity has picked up all around the towns. Traffic is down in the early morning hours and those eighteen and younger seem to be happier. Parents seem to walk a little heavier and kids a little lighter. School’s out.
I don’t know about you but when I was a kid my favorite day next to Christmas was the last day of school.
Now what do you with the children for the next three months?
What a great time of the year to take the younger members of the family to the lanes. How many times have we read the success story of a bowler who has credited his accomplishments to his parents taking him to the lanes at a early age? Don’t give them a chance to get bored. There is plenty of activity in each of our bowling houses.
If you choose to start your child down the lanes it is worth the time to shop around for youth bowling equipment. Many of the major manufactures of balls and shoes produce lines specific for youth. We would no more expect our children to start riding an adult bike than we should expect them to pick up an adult weight ball. How many times have you been at the lanes and seen a child struggling with an oversized ball? Not exactly getting started on the right foot.
During the summer months, many of the lanes maintain their cosmic bowling opportunities that are so popular with the younger bowlers. Fairbank Bowling Center has their cosmic parties during the summer months. Just make sure you give the center a call to find the times and the days available. Fairbank has one league through the summer, Wednesday night. The league is made up of parents and children bowling together. Jim Matis reports that the greatest fun comes from watching the children trying to beat their parents.
If you are in the mood to try something new, the work on the lanes is finished at Manor Lanes in Hopwood. You now have another option open to your game. The management at Manor invites everyone over to give the new synthetic lanes a roll.
A score came in from John Buhovecky about action on the Manor Lanes Thursday night. John reports that Andy Hlatky bowled a 725 series made up of games 257, 212, and 256.
Yough Lanes in Connellsville turned in a 700 series by John Hardy. John bowled a 277 on his way to a 734 series.
A few courtesies to keep in mind at the lanes.
With the rain hitting us almost every other day, it is wise to remember that you never step outside in your bowling shoes. Water on a lanes, whether they are synthetic or natural is dangerous to you and your fellow bowlers. It really isn’t a bad idea to change your peds on your way to the restroom either. While we are on shoes, it is bad form to wear your street shoes in the approach area. It goes with out saying, no food, drink or snuff rubbing in the bowling area also.
Enjoy your young bowlers while they are out of school, the summer will be over sooner than you want.
