Local players advance in American Legion All-Star tryouts

Members of the Fayette American Legion baseball League converged on Charleroi field Sunday for a series of skill events, drills and timed events to determine who would represent the league as All-Stars. In the end, 28 players advanced to next week’s event held at CCAC Boyce on June 16. The event was hosted by the Fayette American Legion and scouts from the Mets, Dodgers, Orioles and Cardinals attended.

Of the 28 players, Connellsville sent nine players including pitchers Clay Hurley and Chris Pepe, infielders Richard Schleinauf, Andy Sparger, Robert Fulton and Wesley Hughes and outfielders Chad Chroyer and David Sumner.

Charleroi sent seven players including catchers Pete Labrasca and Chris Chacko, infielders Nathan Hester, Nick Pascarella and Justin Deutsch and outfielders Mario Fregello and Steven Manna.

Four players represented Colonial including hurler Kevin Garbutt, infielders Scott Fraley and Travis Tolnai and outfielder Ryan Guthrie.

Michael Galis, Matt Stay and Andy Galis represented California and Uniontown’s Nathan Fike and Nick Midlik made the cut.

Carmichaels’ outfielders Robert Virgili and Joshua Lawrence advanced as did Point Marion pitcher Craig Hriblan.

The CCAC Boyce phase takes place June 16 starting at 3:30 p.m.
