Tennessee’s Pat Summitt stands alone at the top KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Pat Summitt stands alone at the top of NCAA basketball.
The Tennessee coach broke Dean Smith’s career victory record Tuesday night, getting No. 880 in the top-seeded Lady Vols’ 75-54 win over Purdue in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Summitt tied Smith at 879 with an easy win over Western Carolina in the first round Sunday night and passed the former North Carolina men’s coach with another convincing victory. Summitt is 880-171, while Smith was 879-254 in 36 seasons with the Tar Heels.
Tennessee (28-4), seeking its seventh national title under Summitt, advanced to face fourth-seeded Texas Tech on Sunday in the Philadelphia Regional semifinals.
Tye’sha Fluker tied her career high with 18 points and had 10 rebounds for Tennessee. Shyra Ely added 16 points, and Shanna Zolman had 15. Sharika Webb had 16 points and 10 rebounds for ninth-seeded Purdue (17-13).

Liberty 88, DePaul 79
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) – Katie Feenstra had 29 points and 13 rebounds, and Liberty followed up its first NCAA tournament victory by shocking DePaul.
With Liberty’s chancellor, the Rev. Jerry Falwell, watching in a front-row seat, the Flames (26-6) weathered a 16-0 run in the second half to become only the second 13th seed to advance to the round of 16 – duplicating Texas A&M’s feat in 1994.
The Flames, 0-8 in NCAA tournament play before beating fourth-seeded Penn State on Sunday, will face top-seeded LSU on Saturday in Chattanooga.
Khara Smith had 27 points for fifth-seeded DePaul (26-5).
LSU 76, Arizona 43
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Temeka Johnson scored all 14 of her points in the first half and had 10 assists to help LSU rout Arizona.
Johnson had a perfect shooting night, going 4-of-4 from the field, including two 3-pointers, and 4-of-4 at the foul line. She did not attempt a shot in the second half.
Seimone Augustus had 18 points for the Lady Tigers (31-2), the tournament’s No. 1 overall seed. Dee-Dee Wheeler led ninth-seeded Arizona (20-12) with 13 points.

Connecticut 70, Florida St. 52
STORRS, Conn. (AP) – Ann Strother scored 19 points, and Jessica Moore had 11 points and 12 rebounds for three-time defending national champion Connecticut.
UConn (25-7), in the round of 16 for the 12th straight year, has won its last 20 NCAA games since falling to Notre Dame in the 2001 national semifinals. The Huskies will play second-seeded Stanford in the Kansas City Regional semifinals Sunday.
Roneeka Hodges had 28 points for the sixth-seeded Seminoles (24-8).

North Carolina 71, George Washington 47
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) – Ivory Latta scored 17 points, and Nikita Bell added 16 points, nine rebounds and six steals for top-seeded North Carolina.
The Tar Heels (29-3), who have won 15 straight games since an overtime loss at Florida State in January, will play fifth-seeded Arizona State on Saturday in the regional semifinals on the Sun Devils’ home court.
Kenan Cole scored 11 points for the ninth-seeded Colonials (23-9).
