Waynesburg advances to PAC title match Waynesburg College moved a match closer to its third consecutive volleyball conference championship Friday night with a 3-0 victory over Westminster at Marisa Field House.
The top-seeded Yellow Jackets won in straight sets, 30-24, 30-20, 30-23. Waynesburg, winners of its past 13 matches, plays Washington & Jefferson today at 1 p.m. in the championship. The second-seeded Presidents (23-6) defeated Thomas More, 30-25, 30-24, 30-23, to advance.
The teams, winners of the six of the past 10 conference titles, split the season series with each squad winning at home. W&J gave Waynesburg its only conference loss on Oct. 4 while the Yellow Jackets beat the Presidents, 3-1, on Oct. 22.
Brittany Morrow had her fifth double-double of the season with a season-high 14 kills and 20 digs. Lauren Freeman had a match-high 21 digs while Kimberly Wilson added 13. Amanda Staudt keyed the win with 11 digs and a team-high 38 assists.
Cal wins season finale
California (Pa.) had a tough time, but the Vulcans came through with a 3-0 victory over Slippery Rock by the scores of 30-26, 30-26 and 31-29.
California improves to 30-2 with the victory, reaching the 30-win plateau for only the second time in team history. The Vulcans, ranked second in the NCAA Atlantic Region, finished second in the PSAC West with an 8-2 record.
The Vulcans will next compete in the PSAC Championship, opening at 12:30 p.m. Friday against the third-place team from the PSAC East.
