Lemieux stars as Pens blast Caps in preseason finale, 7-1

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Mario Lemieux had a goal and assisted on three power-play goals to help the Pittsburgh Penguins finish their preseason schedule with a 7-1 victory over the Washington Capitals on Sunday night. Lemieux had two goals and nine assists in four exhibition games.

Ziggy Palffy added two goals and an assist for Pittsburgh (2-5-2), and Rico Fata, Mark Recchi, Rob Scuderi and Ric Jackman also scored. Rookie Sidney Crosby had an assist, giving him a goal and three assists in five preseason games.

Matt Bradley scored for the Capitals (2-4-2).

Both teams open the regular seasons Wednesday night. Pittsburgh is in New Jersey and the Capitals are home against Columbus.
