By Kevin Harrison For The 2 min read

REPUBLIC – The Waynesburg Red Raiders got four touchdowns and 158 yards rushing from Troy Cree, to defeat Brownsville 40-6, in the season finale for both teams. Cree scored on runs of 9, 40, 3, and 57 yards to spoil “Senior Night” for the host Falcons, and give teams a preview of what is to come next season since Cree is only a junior.

“This is a great way to end our season and send our seniors out with a win,” Waynesburg head coach Dave Sarra said. “Troy is a great runner. His motor is always running and he is hard to bring down.”

Waynesburg (3-4,4-5) picked up their first scored just before the end of the first quarter. Taking a Brownsville punt at their 34, the Red Raiders used eight plays to cover the 74-yard drive, with Cree covering the last nine yards for the score. Nick Patton’s kick made the score 7-0.

Waynesburg scored again in the second quarter. Following another Brownsville punt, Waynesburg started at the 50. A five-yard run by J.D. Higgins and a penalty against the Falcons put the ball at the Brownsville 40. Cree took the next hand-off on a sweep, and raced into the end zone for the score. Patton’s kick would give Waynesburg a 14-0 lead going into half time.

The second half was delayed because of a power outage caused by rain moving through the area.

When play resumed, Waynesburg returned the second half kick-off 36 yards to the Brownsville 44.

From they used eight plays to get to the end zone once again, with Cree scoring on a three-yard run. Patton’s kick increased the Red Raiders lead to 21-0.

“Waynesburg came out ready to play tonight,” Brownsville coach Andy Assad said. “They executed better than we did, and we didn’t tackle well.”

Waynesburg added two more scores at the start of the fourth quarter. Cree scored on a 57-yard run. Then Cree intercepted a Brownsville pass that set up to a six-yard scoring run by John Ringer to increase their lead to 33-0.

Brownsville (2-5, 4-5), avoided the shutout in the fourth quarter on a 13-yard run by Joe Feick, with 57 seconds left.

Waynesburg returned the ensuing kickoff to the Falcons 42.

Waynesburg reserve running back Alex Apel scored on a 42-yard run to close out the scoring and the season.
