Geisel rushes for 210 yards in Maples’ 31-16 win

Ryan Geisel was a one-man show Friday night against Chartiers-Houston in non-conference action. He carried the ball 36 times for 210 yards and five touchdowns as Mapletown put one in the win column with a 31-16 victory. Geisel scored early and often as he picked up touchdown runs of 23, 22, 7, 5 and 4 yards as he accounted for each of the Maples’ scores.

After a tough 28-27 loss to Bentworth last week, Mapletown returned to form totaling 328 yards of total offense compared to 198 by Chartiers.

The Maples’ defense also came to play has they held the Buccaneers to just two scores.

Geisel had a host of teammates help out on the ground as Nick Popernack went 6-24, Jon Caldwell 9-36, Justin Yost 1-8 and John Grim was 2-9.

Chartiers held the edge in the air as John DePasquale completed eight passes for 115 yards, compared to Mapletown’s 41.

The Buccaneers scores came in the third and fourth quarters. DePasquale rifled a 54-yard pass to Tim Betts at the 1:37 mark in the third.

The final score came at 6:30 in the fourth as DePasquale scampered a yard followed by a two-point conversion.

Mapletown (1-1) hopes to make it two straight as it opens Tri-County South play at West Greene with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Burgettstown 44, Jefferson-Morgan 20 – The Rockets scored first on Mack Kline’s 20-yard field at 10:35 of the first quarter, but the Blue Devils scored the next 27 points to cruise to a non-conference win at home.

Burgettstown’s Mike Majoris scored a natural hat trick with three consecutive scores in the first half on runs of 3, 7 and 3 yards while Dan Conley capped the first half with a 16-yard scoring run.

Conley added a 4-yard scoring run in the third quarter and Majoris capped the scoring with 35 seconds left in the game on a 21-yard scamper into the end zone. Majoris ran for 174 yards and Conley gained 110 yards on the ground.

Jarrod Moskola scored a couple touchdowns for the Rockets, one on a 90-yard kickoff return and the other was on a 4-yard pass from Josh Lawrence. Falcon scored the first touchdown for Jefferson-Morgan on a 4-yard run. Lawrence completed 10 passes for 171 yards.

Jefferson-Morgan begins Tri-County South Conference action next Friday when it hosts Geibel Catholic.

Burrell 62, Southmoreland 2 – Southmoreland drops its second straight game Friday in non-conference action with a tough home loss against Burrell.

The Scotties (0-2) hope to put one in the win column as they open up Section 5-AAA action Friday at home against Waynesburg Central.

Peters Township 40, Belle Vernon 3 – Peters Township erupted for 40 points and held host Belle Vernon to just three points as the Leopards suffered its second-straight loss Friday in non-conference play.

Next up on Belle Vernon’s schedule is Uniontown on Sept. 9 with a 7:30 start.
