Pitt basketball team has 17 home games
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pitt will play non-conference games against Wisconsin, Auburn, South Carolina and in-state rival Penn State in December before opening its revamped Big East basketball schedule against Notre Dame on Jan. 4. As usual, the Panthers will do little traveling before starting conference play, meeting only city rival Duquesne and South Carolina on the road among their first 11 games. The Wisconsin home game will be on New Year’s Eve.
With the Panthers rebuilding after losing three starters from their fourth consecutive NCAA tournament team, they will play 13 of a possible 15 opponents in the expanded Big East. The only teams they won’t meet are South Florida and Villanova.
The Panthers’ three home-and-home opponents are West Virginia, Marquette and Providence. DePaul, Marquette and Cincinnati will play in Pittsburgh in their first season in the league, but Louisville will not.
Syracuse, Providence and Seton Hall will also play at the Petersen Events Center, where Pitt plays 17 of its 27 games. Other conference road opponents are Louisville, Rutgers, St. John’s, Connecticut and Georgetown.
