Strikes and Spares
Another great week of bowling on the local lanes I know I can smell a hint of fall in the air this morning.
You know fall is not far away when you can smell the blend of morning dew with that of the exhaust rolling out of the chimney.
Out home it would be a “three piece suit” morning, shirt tie and sweater.
Congratulations to the Tuesday Night Ladies team, Christopher’s, from Klondike Lanes. Sally Bartuch, Carolyn Brown, Melinda Walters and Kathy Christopher secured eighth place in the State Tournament in Mechanicsburg. This is a great showing for western Pennsylvania. We have had some great state marks and recognitions this past year and this latest one adds to the laurels.
The ladies at Klondike show what it is like to command the lanes. Mikie Vinch bowled her way to a 562 with Cathy Christopher knocking on the door with a 535 and Karen Berish completing the report with a 529.
High games were tallied by Cathy Christopher with a 223, Mikie Vinch a 220 and Barb Smith a 195.
The Klondike men have had their share of good lane action.
Rocky Conners had the pins shaking with a 791, and Bob Rohland didn’t give them a chance to set, marking up a 777. Rich Burnsworth was brought into their company with his 719.
High games for the men were credited to Rich Burnsworth with a 278, Rocky Conners a 269 and Bob Rohland a 266.
Manor Lanes shared the lane action with John Hardy leading off for the Monday Trio League with 257, 257/745. Danny Davis knocked them down with a 265 and Kevin Faulskey rolled 258/733. Dave Show rounded out the Trio League with 265/725.
In the Monday Majors, hammer hand Hardy nailed his calling card to the wall with another 257 game and 705 series. Brandon George showed us a 268/702, and Richie Boyer followed through with a 252/706.
Show commanded the lanes with a 730 and Joe Scherer found the ball path to a 269. Ed Floyd matched pins with Hardy to record a 257, and Justin Malik found 288 to be a comfortable score.
Finally subbing from Morgantown, Chuck Fishcherkeller was showing everyone the path to success with scores of 245, 258, 279/786.
Thursday Manor Mix league brings Nick Capo to the boards with a 248, and Ed Floyd bumps his score to 258.
Gudac Lanes reports there are still a few opening in leagues. The Wednesday and Thursday women are looking for a couple of bowlers to join their ranks.
Gudac Lanes shared some of their high averages, games and series with us.
For the men, high averages were achieved by Abe Franks 233, Dennis Swaney 209, Paul Davidson 209 and John Vickless 206.
High games for the men are started by Swaney with a pin rattling 279, and Abe Franks pushed them into the pit with a 269. Michael Bobroskey was not to be left behind with his 266, and Justin Fertal enjoyed a 259 with Aldo Filoni sharing the spotlight with a 257.
High series must go to the man of the report, Franks with 759. Swaney can hold his head proud with a 686 and Filoni kept it on the boards for a 681. Vickless drove home knowing he had secured a 650.
The ladies over at Gudac’s are never ones to be to far behind. High averages for the women are started by Pat Kmetz at 182 and Pat Bandini with a 179. Lois Cash maintained a 174 and Sheryl Pepiot finishes the group off with a 171.
Honors for high games for the women must first go to Pepiot with 218 and then to Cash with a 211, Bandini with a 204 and we round out the high games off with Kmetz and Traci Rush sharing a 203.
The high series report for Gudac brings us right back to Kmetz with a pin commanding 563, and Monica Dubos showed the pins where to go with her 557. Pepiot’s impressive 541 gives her bragging rights and Bandini’s 538 can not go unmentioned.
A great week of bowling. The pins did not get much rest last week. Come to think of it, neither did I. I think now would be a good time to just sit and watch the dew melt away and the rest of the world run about.
