Jeannette builds early lead, holds off Waynesburg
Jeannette jumped out to an early 20-0 first half score and never looked back as they downed Waynesburg Central in an Interstate Conference clash Friday, 32-22. Terrelle Pryor put the Jayhawks on the board first with a 4-yard scamper at the 4:12 mark in the first quarter.
Pryor, who completed 3-of-4 passes for 45 yards, also found Jerry Harris in the end zone in the third quarter for a 10-yard strike.
On the ground, Harris rushed for 80 yards on 10 carries.
Waynesburg’s Troy Cree rushed for 94 yards on 18 carries, highlighted with a 28-yard scamper at the 6:24 mark in the fourth, followed by a Nick Patton kick.
Senior running back J.D. Higgins led all Raider scorers with touchdowns of 10 and one yard. He carried the ball 11 times for 59 yards.
Scott Throckmorton topped the century mark in the backfield with 120 yards on nine carries.
The Raiders fall to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
As well as Waynesburg’s ground game was, the passing game struggled as junior quarterback Mitch Monas went 1-for-5 for 10 yards. Throckmorton was on the receiving end of Monas’s only completion.
Waynesburg (1-2, 2-3) hopes to put one in the win column Friday at Washington.
