Bulldogs send four to semifinals

By The 2 min read

Despite the poor playing conditions, it was a good day for the Beth-Center boys golf team, as four players finished in the top 10 of the WPIAL Section Tournament held on the Gold Course at Cedar Brook Golf Course Monday. “I was pleased,” said Beth-Center coach Rich Gasher. “The kids handled the elements really well. All four of them got through and played solid rounds of golf.”

Greensburg Central Catholic also fared well as they sent five to the semifinal round with Nick Milito leading the way with a 5-over-par round of 77.

Beth-Center’s Roger Myers finished one stroke off the pace and Zach Metcalf rounded out the top three places with an 81.

The remaining qualifying golfers included Zach Marshalak (Bentworth, 84), Matt Rohrer (Beth-Center, 85), Jim Heuler (Greensburg C.C., 85), Zach Catalina (Beth-Center, 85), Marc Perez (Greensburg C.C., 85), Zac Nicola (Beth-Center, 87) and Brian Hails (Greensburg C.C., 88).

Hales who won in a playoff hole over Southmoreland’s Taylor Campbell.

The semifinal round will be played Oct. 3 at Nemacolin Country Club, where the Bulldogs were undefeated during the regular season.

“All of the guys are excited,” said Gasher. “It’s just as important to know where you can’t hit the ball as knowing where to hit the ball. There’s pitfalls everywhere on old courses.”
