Williams finally does it Well, he finally did it.
Walter Ray Williams Jr. tied Earl Anthony’s all-time PBA Tour titles record, as he won his 41st career title in the Denny’s World Championship last Sunday.
He defeated another legend, Pete Weber, in the championship match, 236-213.
Williams got it done in his seventh try at tying the record, while also winning his seventh major title.
He jumped out to an early lead in the title match by earning a spare in the first frame and rolling four consecutive strikes after that.
Weber struggled with his game early, as he converted three single-pin spares and a 4-7-9 split in his fist four frames. He then left a 7-10 split in the sixth frame to give Williams more of a cushion.
Williams finished off the match with strikes in the 7th and 8th, and spares in the 9th and 10th.
This week on the PBA Tour, four bowlers will vie for the title in the Great Lakes Classic at Spectrum Lanes in Wyoming, Mich.
Chris Barnes advanced to the championship round by defeating Williams, denying him a chance to break Anthony’s title record. He will face Patrick Healey Jr. in the first semifinal. In the other semifinal, Pete Weber makes his second TV appearance in a row, when he faces Patrick Allen.

The Bowl for Kids Sake that I mentioned last week is on today at Hillview Lanes in Greensburg with sessions being held at 10 a.m., noon, and 2 p.m.
Also, at Manor Lanes, PBA Tour pro Bob Learn Jr. will host a clinic from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
