Auto Racing Bradich wins at PPMS
Lou Bradich was credited with the victory in the 25-lap Late Model feature when apparent winner Keith Barbara was disqualified for a deck height infraction at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway on Saturday.
Barbara took the lead on lap 18 and pulled away from there as Bradich battled Michael Davis for what looked to be the runner-up spot.
Bradich held on and then was bumped up into first place after Barbara’s infraction was discovered.
Other winners on the night were Mike Cecere in the Crate Late Models, Kevin Miller in the E-Mods, Ron O’Patchen in the Pure Stocks, Adam Chytil in the Amateur Stocks, and Rich Mason III in the Young Guns.

Gardner, Dongilli lift UPG
Geibel Catholic graduate Ashley Gardner bounced back from taking the loss in the first game to earn the win in the second game as Pitt-Greensburg split an AMCC doubleheader with Penn State Altoona, 2-0 and 8-7.
Gardner tossed a complete in the opener, allowing just two runs, but the Bobcats’ offense could muster only two hits in the defeat.
In the second game, UPG (5-19, 4-6) rallied from a 7-0 deficit with two runs in the fifth and five in the sixth to pull even.
The score remained that way until the bottom of the seventh when Belle Vernon graduate Amber Dongilli smacked a two-out single and stole second. Kelly Welsh followed with a run-scoring double, her fourth hit and third RBI of the game, to give the Bobcats a dramatic comeback victory.
Dongilli had three hits and scored three runs in the nightcap.
Gardner pitched three innings of relief for the win.

Bucs place Doumit on DL
PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Ryan Doumit went on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained left hamstring, and catcher Ronny Paulino was recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis.
The roster move was retroactive to April 12. Doumit, who hasn’t played since April 11, started four of the Pirates’ first six games before getting hurt and was hitting .200 with two homers and four RBIs.
The switch-hitting Doumit will continue taking batting practice and catching in the bullpen while sidelined. He is expected to accompany the team on a weeklong road trip that begins Friday in Houston.
“We need to get him back to where he is completely functional, rather than seeing parts of him here and there,” manager Jim Tracy said.
Paulino was hitting .241 with no homers and four RBIs in eight games at Indianapolis.

Liverpool victorious
LONDON (AP) – Liverpool won its seventh straight game in the English Premier League, beating Blackburn 1-0 Sunday on Robbie Fowler’s fourth goal in five games.
Fowler scored in the 29th minute when Fernando Morientes kept the ball in play and passed to Fowler, who beat former U.S. goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
Blackburn complained that the goal should have been disallowed because Djibril Cisse was offside.
The referee ruled Cisse was not interfering with play, however.
Friedel kept Blackburn from falling further behind when he pushed Cisse’s shot over the bar in first-half injury time.
Liverpool is in third place in the league with 73 points, three behind second-place Manchester United, which has played a game less. Blackburn is sixth with 54 points, seven points behind fourth-place Tottenham and three points behind Arsenal.
Chelsea leads the league with 85 points and can win its second straight title on Monday against visiting Everton.
Milan Baros scored twice to give Aston Villa a 3-1 win over local rival Birmingham.
Baros scored in the 10th and 78th minutes, and Gary Cahill added a goal in between. Birmingham made it 1-1 when Chris Sutton scored in the 25th.
