County League playoffs
Mario’s wins opener over Wana B Heros Mario’s took all of the drama away with a three-run first inning Wednesday, continuing the momentum throughout the game for a 10-1 victory over visiting Wana B Heros in the opening game of their Fayette County Baseball League semifinal series.
The second game of the best-of-5 series moves to Wana B Park tonight at 5:45 p.m. as the Wana B Heros try to tie the series. In the other semifinal, Bud Murphy’s travels to Carmichaels in the opening game of the other series.
Ryan Robowski’s two-run single brought home the final runs of the three-run opening outburst for Mario’s.
The home team added a single run in the third on Chris McManus’ solo home run, and three more in both the fourth and sixth innings. Scott VanSickle smacked a solo home run in the sixth.
Wana B Heros avoided a shutout with a single run in the top of the sixth.
Todd Dunham went six innings for his first playoff win. He allowed an earned run on five hits, striking out seven and walking two. Jim Kubina struck out one in the seventh.
VanSickle added a pair of singles to his solo home run. McManus finished with two hits and two RBIs. Mark Edenfield had a double and two RBIs. Bill Rouse added a triple and Matt Chalfant doubled.
Dan Novak had a double and single for two of the visitors’ five hits. Craig Hriblan also doubled.
