Barnyak hurls 1-hitter as Mario’s wins again to take 2-0 lead Mario’s took a 2-0 lead in the semifinal round of the Fayette County Baseball League playoffs with a convincing 9-0 shutout over Wana B Heros behind Jeff Barnyak’s one-hitter.
The game was called after the sixth inning due to rain.
Barnyak struck out seven and walked one.
Craig Hriblan snapped Barnyak’s chance at a no-hitter with a triple.
Hriblan also went on record as the losing pitcher with three innings of action, three runs on seven hits and a walk.
In contrast, Mario’s served up 11 hits highlighted by Scott VanSickle’s double.
Teammates Chris McManus, Shayne Busti and Bill Rouse each singled twice.
Game three of the best-of-five series is today at Republic starting at 5:45 p.m.
Carmichaels 6, Bud Murphy’s 2 – Charlie Humes tripled and singled as host Carmichaels took the opener of their semifinal series against Bud Murphy’s.
Humes was one of four Carmichaels players with multiple hits. Teammates Brent Baker, Brad Baker and Chris Buncic each singled twice, while June Franks doubled.
Winning pitcher Ron Nopwasky worked five and two-thirds innings, allowed both Bud’s runs, struck out two and walked three.
Dale Eutsey went home with the loss. He pitched four innings, allowed five runs, struck out three and walked three Carmichaels’ batters.
Bud’s struggled offensively with singles by Corey Fox, Wes Hughes, Alex Lefcakis and Brian Shipley.
