Nittany Lions fall at home to Southeast Louisiana
STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) – Daryl Cohen scored 28 points, including a jumper from just outside the arc as time expired, to lead Southeastern Louisiana to a 69-66 victory over Penn State on Saturday in the first meeting between the schools. Terry Bryant finished with 16 points and Joseph Polite added 14 for the Southeastern Louisiana (7-4). Cohen, who averages 18 points, scored 21 in the first half on 8-for-11 shooting, including 5-for-7 from 3-point range.
Jamelle Cornley led Penn State (7-4) with 18 points and Geary Claxton added 13.
The score was tied at 66 with six-tenths of a second left when an inbounds pass by Penn State’s David Jackson sailed out of bounds. On the ensuing play, Cohen took the inbounds pass, turned and shot, stunning the crowd of 7,922 at the Bryce Jordan Center. Southeastern Louisiana had tied the game moments earlier on a pair of free throws by Bryant.
Penn State took its first lead of the game when Danny Morrissey converted a 1-and-1 for a 64-62 advantage with less than a minute remaining.
