Strikes and Spares
Bowl for Kids Sake charity event is coming up soon This week, I’d like to mention something I noticed while reading the newspaper.
I came across an event coming up that supports the Big Brothers Big Sisters of greater Pittsburgh.
It is the Bowl for Kids’ Sake 2007. It is the premier charity bowling event of the region.
Six-member teams collect pledges online and join other teams on the event day for a round of bowling. You can donate, start a team, join a team, or participate as an individual bowler through the web site. The site is www.bfks.kintera.org.
For any questions, you may have, contact Jessica Hannan at 412-204-1214 or e-mail jhannan@bbbspgh.org.
Also, every team captain that has a full team signed up by December 31, will have his/her name entered into a drawing to win two round-trip airline tickets to anywhere in the continental U.S.
The dates mentioned include Sundays March 4, March 18 and April 15.
I believe you can bowl on any of those days.
This is a great chance to consider supporting a great charity and having a great time while doing it.
It seems like the appropriate time of year to be thinking about giving back to the communities around us.
If there are any other charity bowling events that any of you know of in the area, don’t hesitate to let me know.
I’ll be back in two weeks, so I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday.

In PBA tour news, two weeks ago in the Ace Hardware Championship, reigning PBA player of the year Tommy Jones captured his ninth career Denny’s PBA tour title with a 222-221 victory over Wes Malott, in the championship match.
Jones rolled six consecutive strikes in frames 4-to-9 to take the lead and needed a double in the 10th to shut out Malott.
He left a 7-10 split, however, leaving an opening for Malott to strike on his first ball in the 10th to win, but a nine-pin forced him to strike for the tie. He got nine on his last shot, however, allowing Jones to escape with the one-pin win.
Last week on the Tour, Sean Rash won his second career title, at the Beltway Classic.
He defeated PBA hall of famer Parker Bohn III, 279-225, in the championship match.
