Humes’ double leads Copperheads past Potter’s

Charlie Humes’ double with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning Monday brought home the eventual winning run and Ron Nopwasky picked up the final two outs to preserve Carmichaels’ 3-1 road win over Potter’s Clubhouse in Fayette County Baseball League action. The game was scoreless through three innings when Jeff Thompson’s RBI single spotted winning pitcher Steve Slatcoff a 1-0 lead. Humes extended the advantage to 3-0 after five innings.

Potter’s Clubhouse had one last gasp in the bottom of the seventh inning, but could only manage losing pitcher Nick Apicella’s RBI single.

Slatcoff (3-2) pitched into the seventh inning for the win, striking out seven and walking four.

Gene Franks and Chris Buncic both had two singles for Carmichaels.

Jared Early and Ryan Guthrie had doubles for Potter’s Clubhouse.

Carmichaels (15-6) hosts Mill Run tonight.

Redd Dawgs 6, California 4 – The visitors tied the game in the top of the sixth and had a little help in the top of the seventh to for a Fayette County Baseball League road victory.

Mark Woleslagle started the winning rally for Redd Dawgs (16-7) with a walk, and then stole second. Ryan Shetterly was hit by a pitch for runners at first and second. Justin Murphy singled home Woleslagle and Shetterly moved to third. Shetterly scored on an errant pickoff throw.

The teams each scored singles runs in both the first and second innings, and Redd Dawgs regained the lead with a run in the top of the fourth.

California (7-14) pushed into the lead with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but Redd Dawgs regained the lead on Shane Molyneaux’s RBI single.

Woleslagle had a single and was walked three times, stealing three bases and scoring three times.

Dave Jones had a double. Ryan Russell (2-0) picked up the last four outs for the win, striking out two and walking none.

Garrett Balas doubled for one of California’s five hits.

Redd Dawgs travel to Bud Murphy’s tonight.
