Carmichaels puts together 4-1 victory over Potter’s The Copperheads only mustered three hits off Dave Novotney, but Carmichaels coupled the few hits with six errors for a 4-1 Fayette County Baseball League victory over Potter’s Clubhouse Friday in a game hampered by rain.
Carmichaels scored single runs, both unearned, in the first and second inning.
Nick Apicella’s run-scoring double shaved Potter’s deficit in half, but Carmichaels answered in the bottom of the inning when Chris Buncic singled, stole second, moved to third on an infield out, and scored on Joe Leonard’s sacrifice fly.
Carmichaels added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Leonard singled and moved to third on Brad Baker’s single. Leonard came home on a balk.
Apicella had both hits for Potter’s Clubhouse, smacking a double in the first inning. Novotney went the distance in the loss, striking out two and walking two.
Zach Solly improved to 2-0, going four innings with one strikeout and three walks. Dan Burkintas finished for his second save, striking out three and walking two.
Carmichaels (18-6) travels to Bud Murphy’s for a Sunday evening contest. Potter’s Clubhouse falls to 2-21.
Bud Murphy’s 0, California 0 – Offense was lacking in the other Fayette County Baseball League game with both teams only mustering five hits. Rains came after the third out of the sixth inning was recorded with the umpires deciding to call the game.
Rain should be expected when the two teams are scheduled with every contest to date either postponed or called because of rain.
Bud Murphy’s had an opportunity for the lead in the top of the fifth inning, but centerfielder Andy Galis’ throw to catcher Matt Hartman nailed Ryan Miscik at the plate as Miscik attempted to score on Brian Sankovich’s single.
California (8-14-1) had a great opportunity go by the wayside in the bottom of the first. Nate Hopkins tripled with two outs. Ryan Encapera was hit by a pitch and Jason Britton walked to load the bases. Dale Eutsey stranded all three runners when he struck out Jason Dayner.
Eutsey allowed two hits while striking out three and walking three. California’s Larry Christinis allowed two hits with one strikeout and two walks.
The two teams meet again this afternoon when Bud Murphy’s (13-7-3) hosts California for a doubleheader at Breakneck Field starting at 1 p.m.
