Softball tournament champions
Fairchance won the championship in the inaugural Rumble on the River fast pitch tournament in the 15-and-under girls’ division sponsored by the Wes-Mon League of Morgantown, W.Va. The champs scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to wrap up the championship game. Alyssa Fowler walked to lead off the inning, stole second and scored on a single by Gabbie Ross. Ross then stole second and scored on a single by Tonya Null. Null also swiped second, moved to third on a groundout by Megan Smith and scored the tying run on single by Kara Walters. After Walters stole second, Jodi Phillips doubled to score Walters for the 12-11 win. Gabbie Ross and Shienna Ross combined to pitch the win.
