Bowling Scene

By Joel Andrews For The 5 min read

Big Brother/Big Sister benefit event coming up This week, I wanted to inform the readers of a fundraiser in the area.

Some of you may have attended the first of two events at Yough Lanes in Connellsville on March 19.

It is the 22nd annual Bowl For Kids’ Sake, and the second event is being held at the Hillview Lanes in Greensburg Sunday, April 2.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Programs in Fayette and Westmoreland Counties.

There are three sessions. The times are 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m.

I don’t know if any of you venture into the Greensburg area, but if you do, you may want to think about bowling for a good cause. Interested bowlers can call 724-837-6198 to register.

Last week on the PBA Tour, Norm Duke spoiled Walter Ray Williams, Jr.’s sixth opportunity to tie Earl Anthony’s all-time Tour titles record. He defeated Williams, 205-198, on the way to his 23rd career title, in the Ace Hardware Championship.

In the title match, he defeated Chris Loschetter, 275-221.

It was Duke’s seventh TV appearance of the season and his first title.

Today at the 2006 Denny’s World Championship, Williams will make his third consecutive TV appearance in yet another attempt at Anthony’s record.

If he is victorious, it will also be his seventh career Major title.

He faces Ryan Shafer in the first semifinal.

Pete Weber, who won his 32nd career title earlier this season, will also have a chance to tie one of Anthony’s records. He will be going for eight Denny’s PBA Tour Major titles.

He faces Brad Angelo in the other semifinal.

Top prize for the event is $100,000 and a four-year exemption through the 2009-10-tour season.
