Vignali’s eagle highlights Gators’ win over Jayhawks Erio Vignali holed his 6-iron from 180 yards out for an eagle on the final hole, a 415-yard par-4, Monday to finish with a 1-over-par 35 as Geibel Catholic defeated Jeannette, 198-249, for a Division II, Section 2 victory at Greensburg Country Club.

Ed Spotts finished with a 39 for the Gators (9-1, 9-1) while Cory Compliment, Eric Ghinassi and Steve Andursky all shot 41 to close the scoring rounds.

Mike Priola was the low man for the Jayhawks (1-10) with a 43.

Vignali and Spotts will compete on their home course at Pleasant Valley Country Club this morning in the WPIAL Boys Individual Golf southern regional qualifier.

Frazier 220, Derry Area 226 – The Commodores’ Marcus Wingrove had the low round of the day with a 3-over-par 39 to lead the visitors to a non-section victory at the Latrobe Elks course. Frazier improves to 9-4 overall while Derry slips to 4-6.

Mike Onuska finished with a 42, Brian Null carded a 45 and John Shandor and Craig Rebovich both shot 47.

Nick Kontor was the low man for the Trojans with a 40.

Charleroi 221, Beth-Center 240 – The Cougars had all five scoring rounds at 45 or better for a non-section home victory over the Bulldogs at Mon Valley Country Club. Nick Lutes was medallist with a 6-over 42.

Travis Crawford was the low man for Beth-Center (4-9) with a 45. Jimmy Webeck and Grant Looman both shot 48.

Boys soccer

Beth-Center 3, Albert Gallatin 1 – The Colonials’ Nathan Desmorne scored off an Emmett Roper assist at 37:51 for the only goal in the first half, but the visiting Bulldogs found the net three times in the second half for a non-section win.

Beth-Center’s Brandon Maloy tied the game at 28:22, and then put the Bulldogs ahead at 12:01.

Chase Bedillion scored an insurance goal with 9:11 remaining.

Cody Shore made four saves in the first half and Marc Marshall had 13 in the second half for the Colonials. Beth-Center’s Steve Fiedler turned aside seven shots.

Albert Gallatin (1-8) hosts Bethel Park Thursday night.

Girls soccer

Laurel Highlands 4, Yough 0 – Kayla Mikluscak scored a goal and assisted on two others as the Fillies scored two goals in each half for a Section 6-AAA road victory.

Becca Russell opened the scoring from a Mikluscak assist with Mikluscak tallying the second goal of the first half off a Morgan Palya pass. Mikluscak assisted on Shaeleigh Deberry’s goal at 12:50 in the second half.

Palya picked up her second assist on Brogan DeCarlo’s goal with 5:44 left.

The Fillies’ Jackie Gaddis made four saves while the Lady Cougars’ Hope Sedunov had nine saves.

Laurel Highlands (4-5-1, 5-7-1) looks to even its section record on Wednesday with an away match at Connellsville. Yough falls to 0-10 in the section and 1-11 overall.

Waynesburg Central 4, Uniontown 1 – Melody Cox scored a hat trick with two goals in the first half and the lone tally in the second half to lead the Lady Raiders to a Section 6-AAA home victory.

Cox scored her first goal in the 22nd minute off a Rachel Corfont assist, but Uniontown’s Anna Girod tied the game a minute later.

Cox gave Waynesburg the lead again in the 28th minute from an Abby Toothman pass, and Claire Vehar ended the scoring in the first half from a Rebecca Rohanna assist. Cox scored in the 18th minute of the second half from another Corfont assist.

Miatta Toothman made three saves in the nets for Waynesburg Central.

Waynesburg Central (7-3, 9-4) heads to Albert Gallatin Wednesday for another section match. Uniontown slips to 2-8 in the section and 3-11 overall.

Geibel Catholic 6, Beth-Center 4 – The Lady Gators built a 3-0 halftime lead, and then had to hold off a Beth-Center rally in the second half for a Section 1-AA road win. Geibel improves to 3-4 in the section and 5-5-1 overall while the Lady Bulldogs fall to 0-7 in the section and 0-11.

Rebecca Sandor, Jessica Davis and Mia White scored in the first half for Geibel.

Abbey Askin scored early in the second half for a 4-0 Geibel lead, but Hannah Roberts finally put the home team on the scoreboard at 34:30.

White answered with her second goal and fifth point of the match about a minute later. Beth-Center’s Megan Sowers scored at 14:49, but Geibel got the goal back on Davis’ penalty kick.

The Lady Bulldogs kept pressing in the final nine minutes, getting goals from Sowers and Alyssa Crumrien.

Geibel put 20 shots on goal while the Lady Bulldogs countered with 18. The Lady Gators’ Mary Beth Saluga made 14 saves with Beth-Center’s Brittany Messer turning aside 12.

Girls volleyball

Waynesburg Central 3, Carmichaels 0 – Lauren Dugan slammed home seven kills and served up four aces to help Waynesburg Central defeat visiting Carmichaels in a non-section match, 25-11, 25-19, 25-13.

Becca Phipps helped out the Lady Raiders with 19 assists.

Waynesburg (6-6) returns to Section 4-AA action today when it hosts South Fayette at 7 p.m.

Frazier 3, North Catholic 2 – The Lady Commodores dropped the second and third sets, but rallied to win the final two for a non-section victory over North Catholic. After Frazier won the first set 25-19, the Trojanettes won the next two, 25-19 and 25-17.

Frazier tied the match in the fourth set, 25-19, and won the final set, 15-11.

Kate Oldham had 25 kills for Frazier (7-2) while Megan Leary had eight. Sarah Berklovich led the way with 19 service points and Sara Zebley had a strong defensive effort with 16 digs.

Frazier hosts Mapletown tonight.

Jefferson-Morgan 3, Beth-Center 0 – The Lady Rockets won in straight sets, 25-8, 25-22 and 25-18, for a non-section home victory. Jefferson-Morgan improves to 9-2 overall while Beth-Center falls to 2-8.

Jefferson-Morgan’s Maddie Snyder had a team-high 14 service points and Sami Sisler was also in double figures with 11. Rachel Weaver had 10 kills.
