Schloemer’s 27 keys Waynesburg golf win Zach Schloemer shot a 6-under par 27 as the Waynesburg Central boys’ golf team defeated Jefferson-Morgan 180-189 in a Division II, Section 8 match Wednesday.

Schloemer’s round is the lowest high school individual score recorded on the front nine at Rohanna’s G.C.

The loss is Jefferson-Morgan’s first in the section and second of the season.

Waynesburg’s Rachel Rohanna and J-M’s Matt Kokoska tied for second with 1-over 34s.

The Rockets’ Dylan Blosser rounded out the top three with a 35.

Matt Fox (27), Joe Moore (40), Taylor Moore (42) and Anthony Jarrell (49) completed the scoring for the Raiders.

Other J-M golfers included Zack Basinger (39), Josh Kokoska (40), Brian Scritchfield (41) and Justin Hughes (43).

Waynesburg improves to 8-7 in the section and 8-7 overall and J-M sits at 16-2 overall and 10-1 in the section.

The Raiders host Carmichaels at 3 p.m. today.

Connellsville 205, Uniontown 207 – Cody Boors fired a 1-over 36 as Connellsville edged Uniontown in Division I, Section 2 action.

Teammate Jonathan Luczka finished two strokes off the pace with a 38, while Uniontown’s Josh Miller and Mike Rogers rounded out the top three with a pair of 40s.

Other Connellsville golfers included Ty Nicholson (41), Devin Keno (43), Braedon Foreman (47) and Jesse Salyers (49).

Seth Rockwell (41), David Bobish (42), Cory Over (44) and Alan Zieglar (45) also turned in cards for Uniontown.

The Red Raiders (10-2, 14-3) are back in action today against Belle Vernon at Willowbrook G.C.

Frazier 206, Bentworth 224 – Marcus Wingrove and Brian Null turned in medallist honors with low rounds of 39 as Frazier cruised to an easy Division II, Section 2 win over Bentworth.

Teammate John Shandor tied with Bentworth’s Zack Marshalek and Chase Roman with 41s and Frazier’s Craig Rebovich rounded out the top three golfers with a 43 at Foxwood Acres G.C.

Other Commodore scores included Mike Onuska’s 44 and Cory Martini’s 48.

Frazier improves to 10-4 overall and 7-3 in the section.

Boys cross-country

Laurel Highlands 26, Ringgold 29; Uniontown 27, Ringgold 30; Uniontown 27, Laurel Highlands 30 – Jeff Palya crossed the finish line in 17:41 and teammate Ryan Thorn in 18:41 as Laurel Highlands defeated Ringgold in a Section 2-AAA meet at Uniontown.

The Red Raiders defeated Ringgold and Laurel Highlands in the matchup.

Ringgold’s Justin Secrist placed third in 19:07.

Uniontown’s John O’Neil (19:12) and Brodie Kelley (19:23) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

The remaining runners were Jeff Giovarnucci (R, 19:41), Kam Schaefer (U, 20:00), Adam Kerim (R, 20:17), Dezmine Teets (U, 20:26) and Angelo Brink (LH, 20:43).

Connellsville 15, Albert Gallatin 45 – Joe Villenueva crossed the line in 18:18 as Connellsville rolled to an easy win over Albert Gallatin in a Section 2-AAA meet at Connellsville.

The Falcons occupied nine of the first 10 spots.

Albert Gallatin’s Logan Howard and Connellsville’s Arlo Helmes tied for second place with a time of 18:46, and the Falcons’ Jeremy Molinaro placed third in 19:13.

The remaining Connellsville runners included Alan Nedley (19:30), Nathan Richter (20:29), Nick Mongell (20:44), Dennis Curry (21:06), Nick Zurowski (21:09) and James Butts (21:35).

Washington 15, Frazier 42; Frazier 15, Burgettstown 40 – The Frazier boys cross country team split a triangular cross-country meet. They defeated Burgettstown, but lost to Washington at Sampey Park.

Washington’s Brandon Odom was first to cross the line in 18:13 followed by teammates Kip Carpenter (19:08) and Josh Rush (19:50).

Washington’s Shawn Hudson finished fourth in 19:58.

Steven Cowen was the first Commodore to cross the finish line in 20:48 followed by teammates Paul Bobnash (21:42), Garrett Baber (23:10), Tristan Bartolomucci (24:100 and Jarrett Eakins (25:30).

Washington’s Jordan Bryant rounded out the top ten runners with a time of 26:30.

Girls cross-country

Ringgold 23, Laurel Highlands 32; Ringgold 16, Uniontown 39; Laurel Highlands 21, Uniontown 36 – Ringgold’s Loren Cortopassi placed first with a time of 21:57 as Ringgold defeated Laurel Highlands and Uniontown in a triangular meet.

The Mustangs defeated the Red Raiders.

Laurel Highlands’ Hanna Yauger finished second with a time of 22:30 and Ringgold’s Jessica Russell finished third in 22:32.

Jordyn Hartsek (LH, 22:44) crossed the finish line in fourth place followed by a pair of Rams.

Jackie Barner (22:58) and Jessica Barner (23:06) placed fifth and sixth.

Cassie Wallace (LH, 23:46), Sammie Brame (U, 24:13), Melany Smith (RG, 24:14) and Michelle Naymick (U, 24:22) completed the top 10.

Connellsville 15, Albert Gallatin 50 – Mary Beth Giles led all runners with a time of 22:46 as Connellsville defeated visiting Albert Gallatin in a Section 2-AAA meet.

The Lady Falcons accounted for eight of the first 10 places.

Teammates Erica Brooks placed second in 23:55 and Heidi Halfhill third in 24:24.

April Shultz (24:26) and Kayla Booher (24:28) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

Albert Gallatin’s Megan Marano cracked the top 10 with a time of 25:06.

Connellsville accounted for three of the final four places with Gabby Carbonara (25:38) finishing seventh.

Albert Gallatin’s Tiffany Blosser (26:10) placed eighth followed by Lindzi Flanders (C, 26:24) and Julie Burns (C, 27:18).

Washington 18, Frazier 38; Frazier 21, Burgettstown 36 – Washington’s Laura Beeton (23:22) and Brittany Stotka (24:38) finished one-two as Washington defeated Frazier in a Section 3-AA meet.

The Lady Commodores downed Burgettstown.

Frazier’s Jessica Hudik placed third in 25:15.

Burgettstown’s Chelsea Bonthes placed fourth in 25:49.

Frazier occupied five of the final six places as Heather Priester (25:59) and Joyce Carson (26:25) finished fifth and sixth.

Washington’s Alyssa Magione (27:09) placed seventh followed by Frazier’s Jenna Boyles (27:10), Erin Sizemore (27:13) and Rebecca Leonard (28:11).

The Lady Commodores (5-4) take on Avella and Chartiers-Houston Tuesday.

Girls soccer

Geibel Catholic 3, Bentworth 2 – Mia White scored two goals, including the game-winner as host Geibel Catholic downed Bentworth in a Section 1-AA contest.

Abby Askin kicked off the scoring with a goal at 37:42 in the first half.

Bentworth peeled off the next two scores as Cassie Robker found the back of the net at 9:13 in the first half and Samantha Ritcter scored at 30:06 in the second half.

White scored her first goal at 13:31 remaining in the match on a Rebecca Sander assist and then again at 8:43 for the win.

Geibel goalkeeper Mary Beth Saluga stopped 10 Bentworth shots and the Lady Gators accounted for 19 shots on goal.

Geibel hosts Monessen Saturday at noon.

Girls volleyball

Laurel Highlands 3, Yough 1 – The Laurel Highlands girls volleyball team posted a 3-1 win over visiting Yough in a Section 2-AAA match.

The game scores were 25-23 (Yough), 25-17, 25-21 and 25-21. There were no individual statistics reported.

The Fillies (6-1, 8-2) travel to Albert Gallatin today.

Boys soccer

Laurel Highlands 3, McKeesport 2 – Chase Frankhouser scored an overtime goal with 2:36 remaining as Laurel Highlands edged McKeesport Tuesday in a Section 4-AAA clash.

Tyler Dillinger put McKeesport on the scoreboard first with a goal at 20:08.

Laurel Highlands’ Davey Hough found the back at the net at 14:43 remaining in the first half.

Teammate Greg Turko put the Mustangs up 2-1 with a goal at 20:04 in the second half.

Dillinger’s second goal of the match tied things up at 2-2 and forced an overtime period.

Frankhouser’s winning goal in overtime gave the Mustangs a 4-5 record in the section and 7-8 overall.

Jordan Merchbaker posted six saves for LH.

Southmoreland visits LH at noon Saturday.
