Hometown fans cheer on Ochoa

MORELIA, Mexico (AP) – Lorena Ochoa finally gave the hometown fans something to cheer about Friday, shooting a course-record 9-under 64 to take a three-stroke lead after the second round of the Corona Morelia Championship. The 24-year-old Ochoa, a three-time winner this year who leads the LPGA Tour money list with $1,974,122, had an eagle, eight birdies and a bogey on the Tres Marias course to finish at 11-under 135.

She birdied the first two holes and holed her 131-yard second shot for an eagle 2 on the 353-yard seventh. She followed with four straight birdies, and also birdied No. 14 before dropping a stroke on No. 15. She closed with yet another birdie on 18.

South Korea’s Sun Young Yoo (67) was second at 8 under, Kelli Kuehne (70) was another stroke back, and 19-year-old Paraguayan Julieta Granada (70) and Heather Young (70) followed at 6 under.

Chrysler Classic of Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Nick Watney shrugged off the showers, played it safe and stayed in position for his first PGA Tour win.

Watney shot a 1-under 71 to move to 9-under 135 and remain in the lead during a rainy, blustery second round in the Chrysler Classic of Greensboro.

Ryan Palmer (65) and John Senden (70) were a stroke back. Palmer had the day’s best round, which included an eagle and six birdies on the Forest Oaks course.

SAS Championship

CARY, N.C. – Loren Roberts wasted little time working his way to the top the leaderboard in his first Champions Tour start in a month, shooting a 5-under 67 for a share of the first-round lead in the SAS Championship.

Roberts, the tour leader with four victories and $1,945,764 in earnings, had five birdies in his bogey-free round. Mitch Adcock also opened with a 67, and Tom Jenkins had a 68 on the Prestonwood Country Club course.

Dunhill Links

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland – Wales’ Bradley Dredge chipped for birdies on his first two holes and finished with a 4-under 67 at Carnoustie to take a three-stroke lead after the second round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

Dredge, who had a course-record 64 on the Old Course at St. Andrews on Thursday, had a 13-under 131 total. He will play Kingsbarns on Saturday.

South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel, Sweden’s Johan Edfors and England’s Simon Dyson were tied for second. Schwartzel had a 67, and Edfors shot a 70, both at St. Andrews. Dyson had a 68 at Kingsbarns.
