Waynesburg golfers defeat Maples, clinch second place Zach Schloemer fired a 1-over 34 as Waynesburg Central defeated Mapletown 204-207 in boys Division II, Section 8 golf action Thursday.

With the win, the Raiders finish the regular-season runner-up to Jefferson-Morgan in the section.

Teammate Rachel Rohanna placed second with a 35, while Mapletown’s Ethan Kovach and Don Hilenbrant rounded out the top three places with a pair of 36s on the front nine at Rohanna’s G.C.

Other Waynesburg golfers included Anthony Jarrell (43), Matt Fox (46), Taylor Moore (46) and Joe Moore (53).

Joel Kovach (40), Charlie Grim (46), Ryan Wilson (49) and Kelly Rice (55) also turned in rounds for the Maples.

The Raiders finish the season at 10-2 in the section and 10-8 overall, while Mapletown finishes at 10-5, 8-4.

Frazier 228, Belle Vernon 243 – Marcus Wingrove carded a 41 en route to an exhibition win over visiting Belle Vernon.

Teammate Brian Null as well as Belle Vernon’s Nick Plavchak finished two strokes off the pace and the Commodores’ Dustin Lerda placed third with a 46.

Frazier’s Craig Rebovich (51), Mike Onuska (52) and John Shandor (47) also turned in scores, while Brian Luzanski (48), Nolan Russell (49), Jeremy Weslager (54), Dave Johnson (49) and Anthony Monahan (57) completed the scoring for Belle Vernon.

Girls soccer

Beth-Center 4, Albert Gallatin 1 – Natashia Clutts scored two goals as Beth-Center picked up its first win in five years with a non-section victory over visiting Albert Gallatin.

Alyssa Krumrine kicked off the scoring with the first goal of the game for the Lady Bulldogs.

Albert Gallatin rallied and tied the game going into the half.

Sandwiched between two Clutts second half goals, Megan Sowers also scored for B-C.

Beth-Center goalkeeper Ashley Rick posted seven saves and the Lady Bulldogs finish the season at 1-15.

Girls volleyball

Geibel Catholic 3, West Greene 0 – Natalie Hozak posted 11 kills and 11 digs as Geibel Catholic remains undefeated with a shutout win over West Greene in a Section 6-A clash.

Chelsey Kreinbrook had 18 assists and Caroline Renne added 11 service points.

The Lady Gators (10-0, 11-0) host Beth-Center on Oct. 16.

West Greene falls to 2-9 in the section.

Frazier 3, Avella 0 – Marissa Pasquale totaled 12 service points and Rachel Hudik added 27 assists as Frazier blanked visiting Avella in a Section 6-A contest.

Teammates Megan Leary and Kate Oldham each had seven kills.

The Lady Commodores (10-2, 8-2) visit Jefferson-Morgan Monday.

California 3, Burgettstown 1 – Amanda Bilitski had 12 kills and 18 digs as California rolled past visiting Burgettstown in a Section 5-A match-up.

Kellie Porter accounted for seven kills and 13 service points.

Tara Prentice added 23 assists.

California travels to Bentworth Tuesday.

Beth-Center 3, Bishop Canevin 0 – Ashley Coffey led with 16 service points and teammate Lauren Golden added 10 en route to an easy Section 5-A win over host Bishop Canevin (25-18, 25-17, 25-14, 25-22).

Amanda Higinbotham added eight kills.

The Lady Bulldogs visit undefeated Geibel Catholic Monday.

Derry 3, Brownsville 0 – The Derry girls volleyball squad cruised to an easy Section 5-A win over host Brownsville (25-6, 25-8, 25-14).

The Lady Falcons (5-12) visit Belle Vernon Tuesday.

West Allegheny 3, Waynesburg Central 0 – Emily Bosworth posted five kills and six digs, but West Allegheny had the last laugh as they blanked Waynesburg Central in a Section 4-AA contest.

Teammate Allison Baker had three blocks and Bekah Phipps added eight assists.

The Lady Raiders look to put one in the win column Monday at home against Mapletown.

Girls tennis

Connellsville 4, Indiana 1 – Megan Parson made quick work of Samantha Bozzer 6-3, 6-0 in No. 1 singles as the Connellsville girls tennis team clinched a playoff berth in Section 1-AAA action.

The lone Indiana victory came in the second singles match as Lauren Young defeated Amy Lucas 6-2, 4-6, 6-7 (4-7).

In No. 3 singles, Kayla Naugle downed Liz Boykin by the scores of 6-1, 6-2.

The team of Kristina Herman and Emily Stout outlasted Joelle Wisnieski and Lauren Kablack 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).

In the second singles match, Casey Nicholson and Megan Jacobs downed Amber Setlock and Rachel Berman-Vaporis by the scores of 6-2, 6-4.

The Lady Falcons (14-5, 9-5) look forward to playoff action which starts Monday.

Boys soccer

Bethel Park 9, Laurel Highlands 0 – It was a rough day at the office for the Laurel Highlands boys soccer team as they fell to WPIAL leader Bethel Park in a Section 4-AAA contest.

Bethel Park led 6-0 at the end of the first half.

The Mustangs (5-6, 8-10) travel to Baldwin Monday at 5:30 p.m.

South Allegheny 4, Brownsville 2 – Adam Mandella found the back of the net twice to lift South Allegheny to a Section 5-AA win over host Brownsville.

Corey Zivkovich put the Falcons on the board with a goal at 22:24 on the assist from Marc Mammarella in the first half.

Mammarella tied the game at 2-2 at the 20:27 mark in the second half on an assist from Greg Arnold, but South Allegheny peeled off two goals late in the second for the win.

South Allegheny posted 22 shots on goal compared to Brownsville’s 11.

College volleyball

Penn State-Fayette 3, Butler C.C.C. 0 – Melissa Beucher, Abby Holbrook and Kelly Kite each had eight kills as Penn State-Fayette, The Eberly Campus blanked visiting Butler C.C.C. (30-23, 30-26, 30-10).

Abbie Renze and Beucher led in the digs category with nine each and Rachel Dunham added 20 assists.

Chatham College visits the Roaring Lions (18-3, 15-1) Oct. 17.
