Washington & Jefferson wallops Westminster, 50-7 WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) – Ryan Mendel and Robby Swallow combined to rush for five touchdowns to lead Washington & Jefferson to a convincing 50-7 win over Westminster, Pa., on Saturday.
Mendel rushed for 131 yards on 28 carries and scored on runs of 4, 2, and 2 yards.
Swallow carried the ball only two times, but scored on runs of 3 and 20 yards. Swallow also completed 16 of 19 passes for 212 yards and connected with Tom McCafferty on a 40-yard scoring strike.
Washington & Jefferson (5-1, 2-0 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference) accumulated 26 first downs and 472 yards in total offense, including 199 yards on the ground.
Westminster (1-5, 0-3) had 246 yards in total offense, but were held to 92 yards rushing.
Robert Morris 23, Cent. Connecticut St. 17
CORAOPOLIS, Pa. – Erik Cwalinski threw three touchdown passes, including the winning score, as Robert Morris recorded a double overtime win over Central Connecticut State.
The loss spoiled a 256-yard, two-touchdown rushing performance by Central Connecticut State’s Justice Hairston.
The Blue Devils’ Ryan Heeney, who made a game-tying 20-yard field goal with 4:11 left in regulation, missed an 18-yarder on his team’s first possession in overtime.
In the second overtime, Central Connecticut’s possession ended with an interception by the Colonials’ Jacky Candy.
Robert Morris then won the game with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Cwalinski to Mario Hines.
Cwalinski, who completed 12 of 20 passes for 223 yards, also connected with Sherrod Evers on a 35-yard touchdown pass and with Jarvis Powers on a 68-yard scoring strike.
East Stroudsburg 12, Edinboro 0
EDINBORO, Pa. – Jimmy Terwilliger threw for 199 yards and one touchdown as East Stroudsburg beat Edinboro.
Terwilliger completed 16 of 30 passes and connected with Evan Prall on a 12-yard touchdown pass with 2:51 left in the first quarter to give East Stroudsburg (5-2) a 9-0 lead.
The Edinboro (3-4) defense, however, sacked Terwilliger five times.
Indiana, Pa. 33, Clarion 7
INDIANA, Pa. – Kevin Weidl threw three touchdown passes and Nick Wallace kicked four field goals, as Indiana, Pa., rolled over Clarion.
Weidl completed 13 of 23 passes for 131 yards and connected with Tobias Robinson on touchdown passes of 31 and 15 yards. He also found Anthony Cellitti on a 9-yard scoring pass.
Indiana (5-1, 3-0 in the PSAC West) also scored on field goals of 38, 23, 26, and 35 by Wallace.
Duquesne 35, St. Peter’s 21
JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Scott Knapp threw for three touchdowns in the first half to lead Duquesne over St. Peter’s.
The Dukes (5-2, 1-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) took command early, jumping out to a 28-0 lead as their offense recorded several big plays. Meanwhile, their defense dominated St. Peter’s (0-6, 0-1), which had trouble moving the ball most of the game.
Thiel 20, Grove City 0
GROVE CITY, Pa. – Dan Hess ran for three touchdowns as Thiel shut out Grove City.
Hess rushed for 113 yards on 32 carries and scored on a 7-yard run in the first quarter, a 1-yard run in the third quarter, and a 2-yard run in the fourth quarter.
Thiel (4-3, 3-1 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference) accumulated 20 first downs and 293 yards in total offense. Tomcats quarterback Billy Blankenship completed 16 of 27 passes for 163 yards.
Carnegie Mellon 20, Case Reserve 10
CLEVELAND – Travis Sivek rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns and Kevin Mulkern threw a 76-yard scoring pass to Mark Davis to lead Carnegie Mellon over Case Reserve.
Allegheny 49, Kenyon 38
MEADVILLE, Pa. – Jimmy Savage threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more, as Allegheny outscored Kenyon.
Savage completed 15 of 19 passes for 158 yards and connected with Dallas Robinson on touchdown passes of 19 and 7 yards. He also scored on runs of 1 and 7 yards.
Stony Brook 30, St. Francis, Pa. 20
LORETTO, Pa. – Josh Dudash completed 22 of 27 passes for 314 yards and two touchdowns to lead Stony Brook over St. Francis, Pa.
Mercyhurst 24, Findlay 7
ERIE, Pa. – Mitch Phillis threw a pair of touchdown passes to lead Mercyhurst over Findlay.
Ferris St. 35, Gannon 14
BIG RAPIDS, Mich. – Ryan Kaul threw five touchdown passes and amassed 278 passing yards to lead Ferris State over Gannon.
Matt Butler scored both touchdowns for Gannon (0-7, 0-6) on runs of 1 and 2 yards. He completed 19 of 32 passes for 224 yards.
King’s, Pa. 23, Juniata 7
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Jeff Field rushed for 179 yards on 15 carries and scored three times as King’s beat Juniata.
Field scored three times on 1-yard runs for King’s (5-1, 5-0 Middle Atlantic Conference). John Ortiz added 130 yards on 28 carries for the Monarchs.
Duane Ehredt rushed for 99 yards and scored the only touchdown for Juniata (1-6, 1-6). Kiel Knisley rushed for 116 yards for the Eagles as the two teams combined to rush for 544 yards. Ehredt left the game just before halftime with an injury.
The Monarchs picked off Juniata quarterback Jay Leonard three times – including one interception returned 40 yards by Craig Haywood that set up Field’s final touchdown.
Tim Lust booted a 28-yard field goal in the third quarter for King’s.
